got 1 smelt and a tommycod last night. talked to a guy who had 30 and another group of guys who had about a dozen smelts and just as many tommycods... seems like you'e gotta be in the right spot at the right time, random guys seem to be hitting em one night and none the next.... unless you're icetrapper, how the hell do you ALWAYS catch smelt?

we got 20 last night along with a couple tommy cod all on the incoming. Talked with one group of guy's when we where leaving they said they got 40.

yup there alive..np tank chiller just in the coldest room in the house with no heater!!!

i been averaging now around 50- 80 a night

It's the 11 herb's and spices that the fish can't resist. I wouldn't get too caught up in the numbers, if your not getting the bite the way you expect you need to change something and find out why the shack in front or behind you is doing so well. I'm betting that if your coming home with 40 - 50 smelt on that river, then you invested some time. We have a habbit of spending 5 - 6 hours a trip to try and get our numbers up, it's not easy!
Some year Nick we've got to give Maine a shot, a couple hunderd smelt would be crazy! I'm up for that!

oh yeah.. im bringing some up tomorrow ..im going up ALL DAY lakers and bows around 10am-night fall for cusk..im gonna be bringing some small shiners and smelt giant rainbow smewlt as well!!

I am also going...Exeter River, last few times it's been gettin better...I'll be in a blue clam 5600 if anyone wants to say hi.

The tide is about 10:30 pm I think, so I'm gonna set up ~ 7-8 pm....Any other suggestions, fishing the bottom with cut sea worms etc seems to be best, although I hear Fried Chicken is the new hot bait!!!

I just got off the phone with a buddy of mine who fishes in exeter, and he said it dropped way off from last weeks catches. he went from a hundred fish a night, to a dozen a night this week.

Just tried the day tide River Rd. Three smelt in three hours. A friend of mine caught 20-25, but she was the queen of the ice. 0-3 fish was the average around me.

i got 15 in a half hour went down o block up my shack..put 2 lines in the water.. was getting hits and fish on low tide!!

A little tip to those who may need a Smelt shack. people are starting to abandon camps allready, if you see one sinking or frozen in, call the number thats written on the camp and 9 times out of 10 they will tell you its yours.

My buddy was given a realy nice one yesterday, and then gave it to me

ill be there probably saturday night!! the fish are still hitting in numbers!! i picked up 55 in an hour 4 nights ago and last night i went to block up my shanty and got 13 in 15-20 minutes!!
