BACK UP PLANS
« on: Jan 10, 2020, 07:58 AM »
well in a week or so some friends are coming into town (lagrange co) and the plan was to ice fish....
well we all know how plans go and i am now making back up plans. trying to keep options open, have the boats ready but looking for late Jan open water options. the only boat issue is well...it can just be really cold.  there is always a bite somewhere....
ideas on the table......

take a boat and go crappie fishing.
steel head at trail creek ( its been stocked and hate pounding the little guys)
walleye in the st joe river trail races ( elkhart and twin branch) maybe sylvan.
pike fish the little elkhart...
oliver for trout if the channels not over an inch thick with ice.

what are some other ideas .  not hot spots or locations i can find my own fish,  just some decent bites or ideas that maybe i am over looking

Good luck wherever you end up.  Personally i would head up into lower wisconsin and see what you can find there for ice.

You don't need a boat I have a pier that goes all the way across.

I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

I need more people to come out. LOL I get a lot of interest but most don't show up. Even my big trout that I harvest in the fall up to 12 pounds I hear, "oh can't wait. Just call me." Then I call them and they always have something else going on.

One diehard has been here 3 days in a row. He's fishing in the rain and wind now. Wait 'till you see his pictures! His buddy lost a yellow perch that was well over 15 inches. I could have another one in there that is in state record size range come April!

Some more fish from the pond yesterday. About 30 more trout caught today. Not sure how many more there are. So if you want to catch some don't put it off much longer.

flood stage made it easier. they were out of the current ...way out of it like up in the flooded trees lol
just eaters and some shorts but the water was pretty clear but definitely high. Fish are pre-spawn and moving up and feeding. all in about 4' or less.
nothing pic worthy sorry
just waders and 1/4 oz curly tails.
i did get snagged on a picnic table if that says anything lol
