Any word from the slough today or expectations for the rest the week.
-
Just called the Slough a few minutes ago, recorded message with no information as to lake conditions. With no ice report the lake will be only open to waterfowl hunting until Feb. 10th unless safe ice happens before then.
-
about 30 minutes ago I left the farm and was headed that way to go check it out and I got a phone call that had to reroute me maybe tomorrow if I get a chance to make it out there this week I'll post what I find I guess it's time to throw the spud in the truck
-
I hear they are limiting out on sandhills there!
-
Read on another site that they opened in up for ice fishing 2 to 3 inches of ice
-
They opened it up today. Filbert lane and Mormon Hill areas are open. Keep it safe, go with a buddy and let us know how the bite and ice are. ty

Thanks Bishop
May have to venture out there in the next few days

I am a big guy so I need 4+ inches before I feel safe. The channels are usually much thinner. CAREFUL...
-
I hear that , I'm 230 so I prefer 4 inches plus my self

I walked all around it the last 2 days.

Received a call from a die hard that always gets there at first safe ice. Report was 3” and between 2 of them they pulled over 200 Gil’s and threw back half. I saw the pictures tonight and I am jealous that I could not get off of work to join them. It’s going to be a very short season around here if the weather stays the way it has been.

I hope they threw back more than half, if 2 guys caught 200. 🤔

Limit is 25 panfish

Not necessarily. The daily bag limit for bluegills is nonexistent. There are exceptions. Just be aware of what the regulations are.

willow slough has special limits. 25 panfish total and 2 bass over 18". If you look at the link you posted it shows that.
-
Went out Wed Morman hill 3-4 inches ice. 75 people out. caught 30, 10 keepers.

I forgot what post I was on. Yeah, I knew the slough had special limits. I was thinking I was in a different post and was speaking in more general terms. Forgive me.

don't a 25 fish limit means its full of 10+"ers?
they spray that lake pretty heavy with weed killer dont they?

Back in the day limits of 10s were possible. Not so much anymore. They have been spraying invasive plants but the cattails have vanished. That is why they will begin draining it next year.
-
Correction: there was 4 in there group.
-
Thinking on trying it out there. I have army training in Rensselaer. Might be fun to try it out after the duty day.
-
Me and a buddy headed that way no gonna try something else first and if that don't work I'm headed to the slough

So, they did decide to drain it next year 2021 then. Last I heard they put a hold on those plans.

I guess I misspoke. I said next year. As far as I know the draining will start this spring. If that changed, I haven't heard about it.
-
In the spring of 2022 is when the project will start. Fishing will be closed for a year. Before they drain it they will loosen restrictions to get some extra fish removed. Look out for the beards. LOL

The draw down process begins this year. The project is supposed to be done 2022.

I heard the same as NDA , limits lifted april 2020 . Was there tonight good ice alot of guys but fishing was a bust . Checked lasale as well and about 2 inches there with spots that are less . Decided to drive to Bruce lake and u cant even get on it
-
I've always wonder why the slough has ice before lakes in my area which are straight east about 70 miles. I am guessing its because its so shallow, is that right.

I was reading somewhere today that according to Mike ( Slough manager,) he said 2022 is when it will start. You know how they get crap all screwed up. Guess time will tell. If suppose to start this spring you would think that the limits should be relaxed thur ice season. NOW????

Fished there one time bout 20yrs ago with my brother. Went to fish for pike didn't catch any never gill fished. Don't know if we was in a good spot we parked at the lot with the main office. Walked to the right and fished around the 2 island in front of a big cove. Every year I think about going but never make it, just don't like to drive far anymore probably 70+ miles. Max is about as far as I go anymore.

Not all of that is accurate. It says there will be no panfish restrictions in 20-21. It's 2020 and the limits have not been lifted.

They didnt plan on lifting limits during the ice season, unless conditions prevailed to do so.
You are correct, some of the information in this article is incorrect. Me and many others that use the property, ALOT. we where at the meeting.

Tried to get on at filbert lane yesterday. Made it just short of where guys have been. Not quite thick enough for me, spud went through in 1 hit in several spots. Poked around where I found thicker ice but it was close to the access and in about 2 foot deep water .Going to attempt again tomorrow morning, maybe try and get on at different area.
-
Very slow fishing and questionable ice thickness. If you wanna take a bath , venture out. Slush on top today. I left after 2 hours out on Mormon Hill and didn't venture out very far.
-
Definitely varies. I have been on a solid 3 to 4 inches the last couple days but found several spots with 2 or less. Thin spots were on the main trail everyone has been using going out at filbert. At least it's shallow.
-
I was out on filbert most of the day Monday, had to put some planks out to get out but once you got it was a solid 3 but definitely watch where your steppin. Bite was pretty slow ended up with a dozen could only fish till. Hearin right at dark has been the best bite.

I'm guessing you were at birdhouse point, not filbert lane. No planks needed at filbert. Like I said in above post, there is several spots about 200 yards out that are thin/soft. Don't think because you are following someone's trail that it's all good because it's not. Haven't seen anyone else using a spud. Like I said, at least it's shallow. Stay safe, going out this afternoon one last time then I'm done for while.
