Auger blade sharpening
« on: Jan 13, 2015, 01:10 PM »
Anyone know anyone who sharpens auger blades? I bought a Ion from some guy over the internet.  The auger itself is in great shape, but the blades were absolute trash (they are detachable).  I bought a new set online, but want to find someone who can sharpen my new ones this week (hopefully).  I called a Cutelry place in Dearborn, but he said they couldn't do something like that.

They are awesome and they do an exchange as well so you don't have to wait as long for your blades.

I read a couple of seasons back about using a dremel tool with a polishing burr on it with polishing compound.   Only polish the top of the blade and make sure the tool is turning "up" from the edge and not into it.  I have honed sets of blades for my mora this way with great results...only way I ever had any success.

Unfortunately it doesn't appear they sharpen Ion Blades (even though they are removable). I sent them an email to double check, but it looks like I may have struck out.

I was at the Sparta Sport Shop and the lady who owns said there is a guy who sharpens south of town on Alpine almost to GR.
Know its a long way, but if you have to mail them I guess it doesn't matter where they go.

I just did this last week to my strikemaster blades. Worked like a charm. About fifteen minutes is all it took.

Hey guys just an update, I was contacted by a Rep from Fish307.com...He informed me that they do actually sharpen Ion Auger blades.  So problem solved, just wanted to share in case anyone else had this issue.  (I think that Ion is owned by a bigger company like Strikemaster, not positive though).
