Inventions

P Gottshall asked us to add an "inventions" board. So please post your inventions by replying to this post. It is set as a "sticky" so it will stay at the top of the "equipment" forum.

Bean,

I guess I'll be your first post-er.  This should be fun!  I've seen so many excellent ideas; it'll be great to accumulate them here!

If anyone notes an idea they feel should be archived here, please post a message!

SAVE THE 12 HOUR WARMERS
Buy the big 12 hour handwarmers. I do. They're alot warmer then the little guys. When done for the day and still hours left I put them in a ziplock baggy, seal to a corner, suck the air out and close.  Good until the next time.  I date them with a pen on the back so I know how old they are.  More heat and saves money ??? :o

Here is a smelt rig I made up to hook on one of the poles of my portable.  Also works for perch and crappie.

Just a bent coat hanger with an old tip-up line spool.  The spool slides to the right to lower the line.  Then slides left and the end of the wire goes in the holes on the spool to keep it from moving.  I put a stopper on the pole to keep the whole thing from sliding down.  Caught a few perch with it this weekend.

Oh i have tons of inventions that i will share with you at some time.we have a portable home built shack that has a 3/4 inch plywood floor.to make it slide very easy we laid 2x4 along the bottom laying flat.then we cut 4inch plastic pipe(the white stuff for underground)in half lengthways.we stretched the pipe over the 2x4s and screwwed them on to the side of the 2x4.it slides so well that we have to shore the sides to stop it from blowing away.works awesome for pulling by hand as requires vertually no labour at all.bye for now!!!!!!

Just wanted to show the contraption I came up with this fall for smelting out of the shanty.  I rigged up a pvc stand/platform for my smelt jig sticks to lay across the tops of the holes.  Once I drop the lines down in the hole, all I have to do is pick up the pvc stand and lift it up and down periodically to jig all of the lines at the same time.  I have used it a few times already with some limited success (only 2 smelt so far), but should work great once the smelt are in the area.

Oh - the green glow is my optronics fish light that is down the hole also.

Paul,

You got the best of the ones I recall from last year here at the beginning of the topic you set up.

I received a message from Scott today that the archived previous posts and topics will be back up and running sometime soon. (I tried to access them this morning and could not get them to open). I will do some looking around then and see what I can find. As I recall, we can thank RGFIXIT for the best gadgets.

Nice job accumulating all the invention and homemade gadget info!!! (Do you actually find some time to fish, what with all those nice drawings . . .)  ;)

I posted this invention inquiry somewhere in the Tip Up section, where it likely will be "lost" forever from sight. Please post any information or experience you have with homemade pager set ups. I have pasted my earlier inquiry below:

I have been searching the board before posting this as a new topic, and finally, here it is.

I wondered if anyone had tried to make their own set of Tip Up alarms and pocket pager. I figured with pagers going the way of the Edsel and 45 albums, (with the popularity and new technology of cell phones), that reclaimed pagers could be easy to obtain. Thought Radio Shack might have the other gizmos for attaching to the Tip Ups. Did not know where to begin in selecting the Tip Up parts needed and then there is the frequency thing between the Tip Up unit and the Pager.

Figured with my luck and technological "ability" I would end up with a unit tha worked fine, but went off every time someone hit their garage door opener or hit the automatic starter on their cars.

So, can you try to help me out with some ideas or instructions???

Thanks,
-Reelcharacter

pour your own leaches.......really
I tried this and it works great.take a tube of silicone that may be half full or less(depending on how many leaches you want to make).
-pull out the round plug that forces the silicone out the end.its inside the tube and is pushed by your gun.you may want to cut the tube short to get at this better.
-now find some acrylic paint(black or brown, depending on your area)craft paint works fine.using a stick etc.,mix a small amount of paint into the silicone untill you develope the correct color you wish for.mix well work quickly!
-replace the plug and insert the tube into your gun.
-be sure to cut the tip large enough to make the correct size of leach.a large tip hole seems needed for a leach.
-now squeeze out as many leaches onto a wax paper as you want, let them dry and go fishin!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there is a very similar invention ive seen that has two skis under one end.a person then tows the unit onto the ice and tips the unit up and pulls the two ends apart.the fabric is then between the two ends.very nice job stump!

I don't know about custom manufacturers, but the following (you have likely already thought of) come to mind:

Rubbermaid agricultural stock tank
Kiddy wading pool
Heavy poly stapled in a wood frame you could make to any size you want

I see that it has been done before but i like the design the guy came up with, i mean if you can build it why not.  Sometimes it is fun to just use your own brain and figure things out, rather than opening the wallet and spending.
