pond maps
« on: Dec 02, 2009, 05:50 AM »
good morning all,

New to the hard water fishing ... well not that new just more serious this year. looking to see if I can find some maps of ponds and lakes in the area, I guess bottom contours ect. I figure if I do a little research now I'll have better luck later. The other thing I would like to mention is that I am a pretty avid surfcaster so if anyone would like to trade tips I would be glad to share even take you along sometime if you would like to try it.

thanks in advance

I called DEM a few years back ,I think it was a office in Wakefield , and they sent me the Map/ fish/Lake soft cover book for FREE! It has all the contours of the lakes and the spieces of fish in that lake,I never go out without it.
How are the edges ?

Fish and Game in Wakefield doesn't have any more of those books I was told the state stopped printing them four years ago. so if you have one and want to make some money you can print up your own and sell them. if you want...... like I won't tell anyone...... for real.

The maps are pretty cheesy in that book in my opinion but I think they are the only ones for RI floating around.  I wish we had good lake maps like other states do.

You can get all the mass pond maps free online. I don't know why RI can't due this.

well.... I received a copy of the book... the last printing was 04' if anyone would like a copy of a specific pond/lake pm me and I would be glad to scan it in as a .pdf.... the other thing I was thinking was to import the .pdf into google earth and overlay it on the sat image so you could get lat and long coordinates.

That book and those maps are from the 1960's... cut them some slack. I know because I have the original, not the reprint.

But yes it would be nice to have updated topographic maps.

It would be very cool if you could be so kind as to post Echo Lake. My Dad fishes there a lot and this would be a great gift for him. Thanks! I am new here and love it!

i got one too, its ancient, the topo maps are dated back to the 50's. i wonder how much a lake can change in 60 years so it might not be the most accurate but still very affective. do u know if a newer one includes tarbox pond cause mine doesnt and i go there alot

Glad to see someone else with the original book! Something neat about having the real deal in your hands.

I can't take the credit though - I snatched this from my father.  Thanks Steady Eddie ;).
