can you use chubs for cut bait? seeming its not live bait and its being used as cut bait..
-
I'm a little confused to why you are questioning this.
Cut bait is indeed not live bait, so even if you are fishing a "no live bait" water you can do this. All Maine's chubs are "legal bait fish" so you can use them as cut bait.

The list of legal bait fish only applies to whole fish. Any species can legally be used as cut bait.
-
From the fish and wildlife site:
The following species are considered legal baitfish. Any species of fish not listed below, except smelt, may not be used as bait (live or dead) for fishing in inland waters...
So I would say even as cut bait, it would have to be a fish from the approved list.

Now I'm confused...can we get a wardens take on the rule?
-
It must be on the list. I know a lot of people use a sliver of meat from perch, wf, etc, but not legal.
-
When the rule was changed to "dead or alive" it resulted in only the bait listed on the approved list being legal. If its a fish it better be on that list if you get checked.

To answer the OP; yes you can use chub as cut bait, or live bait, provided that it was not imported from out of state.
