finally went with the drill set up.

totally amazed by the power the speed of this set up. i can drill 3 holes to 1 compared to my mako 43.

weighs under 20#. i just cant see going back to gas. first outing i drilled 40 holes and still had a little charge left. i guess if you cant beat them, join them.

btw, ice kicker geared auger plate is amazing. should save alot of stress on the drill/bat.


only con that i can see is when you let go of the trigger, it slams to a complete stop. doesnt sound the greatest and possibly could cause some damage. otherwise super happy!

Interesting that it slams to a stop. I wonder why and where the damage will be,the Kicker or the drill.

Oof coming to a total stop seems bad. Definitely curious about the consequences there in the long term if anyone knows. Was thinking about getting one of those kickers...

They all do that, more or less, because of the electric breaking built into the drill...

The 996 is a beast.   Last weekend we ended up on the ice in the dark at -8F with a gas auger that was out of gas, and a clam plate setup with a Nils that wouldn't cut.  Pulled the 8" Mora bit off my gas auger and threw it on the plate, no gearbox, and with a battery that sat in the sub zero trunk of a car all night and it ripped multiple holes through 16" no problem and saved the day.
