2 baits per line...keeping them untangled??
« on: Jan 30, 2008, 06:05 PM »
Anyone ever fish 2 baits per line? Any tips on rigging them to keep them from tangling up? I fish dead minnows and cut bait on monofilament leaders, and have almost come to the conclusion it'd be easier just to run 1 bait per line rather than the two we are allowed as they are constantly tangling. Thanks in advance for any tips

Jig,

If you read In-Fisherman, the last issue or so dealt with a set-up called the Michigan Rig. It has illustrations that would be helpful to you I think.

Thanks, I do have it unless the wife threw it out. I saw it, but they were using a jig and fly or something?

That would be the article alrighty. With live bait you may have to use a perch spreader to keep them from tanglins.  :-\

I use Multiple rigs here in NY for Lake Trout....I use small 3 way swivels with short leaders and spread them out. I Put a heavy weight on the "Bottom End" of the line.

tangling can be a problem but i have also lost many a fish when the top hook gets caught on the bottom of the ice.  i usually don't fish with two hooks any more

Also be careful if you space the hooks out a bit and have one up out of the Ice while the fish is on one below. If it decides to run you can get a hook in the hand!
I've had days were only the set ups with multiple rigs were working. Think it makes the fish think there is a school or puts them at ease.
