I can't believe there hasn't been a post about this yet.
Who is going?
Is there going to be apparel for sale at the Ice Shanty booth?
I will be heading out there on Friday after the kids get home from school. Hopefully this year there won't be a snow storm.
Who has parking tips. I am not going to pay event parking this year. I need the money to buy plastics and jigs at the show.
-
I plan on going, will be my first time. Brining my new Cabelas credit card!
-
it will be my 2nd trip down there even if i have ice to fish on i'll be there !!
-
This will be my 7th year..lots of posts on the main board. Got folks headin down from Ontario, Wisconsin, NH, the Dakotas, Illinois. We'll be posting times/meet spots/cell #'s on the main board. Parking is a zoo, best to head 3 or 4 blocks away to one of the local watering holes...they'll park ya and charge, but ya get it back at their establishment later. If you have a nice vehicle, do NOT put it in the ramp across the street, the spaces are about 1/2 car wide and it's packed. No way would the new F-150 4x4 Hawg fit in there...ain't gonna happen!!! Bring money, if you want a pop and hot dog, that's usually 7 bucks. Burgers are 5-6 bucks each. Expect to wait in ticket line at least 1/2 hour or more...usually stretches down the halls and out the doors. Not really any place for the kiddies...it's elbow-to-elbow, and ya can barely move at times. if you have difficulty standing/walking like I do, bring a small folding chair, because there's no place to sit and take a break. Best deals are on Sunday before close....hope the tips help!!! Any more needed, feel free to PM me. ;D

Have they posted who will be speaking and at what times yet? These watering holes, any chance you can name some and they actually let you park in their lot the whole time your at the show?
I've been wanting to go for the last handfull of years but it seems like something always comes up but hopefully not this year.
-
I'll be going; try for Friday nigt w/ my son. Was at the FLake GM Ice Expo today.

This is an expo for the manufacturer's, it's not like the Sports show. I've never seen speakers at it, other than product demos. You'll have to hunt around for your watering hole; it's not "publically noted", since very few spaces are available anyway. Sorry!! Kinda one of those lucky things ya run into sometimes.. ;D
-
I think your best bet will be to check the parking structure north of the River Center on the corner of Kellogg and Smith. I would be surprised if many businesses around St. Paul will let you park there while you are not spending your money on them.
-
Affinity Productions who is putting on the show is only listing Venders, no speakers on the show info page ! There has been a thread on this since September ??

No problem when a guy finds a sweet deal like that you gotta keep it on the DL. ;) I could of sworn they had different fishing pros speaking at the show over the years but I'm probably confusing it with something else.
-
Nope, Surfy, I've never seen any speakers at the Ice Show in all the years I've gone, just at the big Sports Show up there in March, which I think folks are getting confused with each other. As I mentioned, this is basically a vendor show for all their new gizmos and gadgets. Best show I've seen up there are the Ice Girls... :woot: >:D

I guess I meant seminars not speakers and I might be wrong here but according to Ice Shanty they had the following seminars last year. Now I haven't made it to a show yet so I can't say for a fact that they had them but I would like to find out if they are this year because if not I'll only head down for the day rather than make a weekend of it.
Not trying to get in a pissn contest here just really confused at this point.
-
No contest going, SKilo!!! I'll be danged!!! I watch the seminars at the Spring Show, but have never seen one in the winter!!! They have to be upstairs in the seminar halls, where they are in the Spring...and to think I thought they were closed up there in the winter!!! How did I miss these? Come to think of it, I WAS talking to Ted Takasaki a couple years ago about a presentation....hmmmm. ..!!! Thanks for posting this!!! I stand corrected and admit I made a mistake!!! Everyone, ya can blame me!!!! ;D
PS...Where did you find it?!

they have seminars and speakers all weekend, if you go to there website they will have a list, I know Dave genz does speakings every day
-
Did you bother to take the time to read my above post?
-
On the original st paul show thread, we were discussing where to meet up at the show seeing there isn't a IS booth there this year and stumper suggested the Otter outdoors booth at the bottom of the escalator, any thoughts ?
-
That would be ok, but it's usually so packed down there...how about at the doors straight out from the escalator on the first floor? Kinda in the south corner (ticket window end) of the floor? That would be at the "head of the line" area, off to the left side....
-
Im not sure what time I may get into town, so if you PM me your cell # I can give you a call when I get in. :)
Then we can meet up somewhere they sell beer. ;D

Cool! I didn't want to step on anyones toes around here. You had me thinking I was loosing it :cookoo:so I searched last years show but without having been there I really couldn't figure it out.
I sure hope to make it this down this year!

Could someone link to the other thread? I can't seem to find it.

FYI- I have worked the show for the last number of years, even before affinity took it over. They tried to merge the powersports (snowmobile show) with the ice fishing show and since then most of the sled vendors gave up on it so it is pretty much all ice fishing now except for a few strays. The stage is in the back (Roy Wilkins) area across from where Korkys Outpost's big booth is. The speakers talk for 20-30 minutes pretty much hourly. Some repeat. After listening to virtually every one over the last 3-4 years I can tell you that some are sleepers and others are quite good. Dave Genz isn't flashy but he can be informative. The electronics reps always do a good job. If you get tired, go sit in this area when there is or isn't a speaker. It is a little quieter here. There will be mfgrs booths and retail booths where you can buy just about anything. Friday is OK, Saturday is a zoo and Sunday is a little quieter. Some things might get a little picked over by Sunday, mostly in apparel. Otter, Clam and Eskimo drag down a semi load of product to be available for the retailers handling their lines so you won't see every retailer having shelters set up due to limited space. If they run out, they will ship to you for free. So if you are coming in a mini Cooper and you are looking for a big Otter shelter, go on Sunday and chances are that you can get yours shipped to you for free. I know that there will be shelters, augers, tackle, apparel, boots and trailers at the show. Some prices are fixed by the mfgr and others are not. I think the better deals tend to be in the back (Roy Wilkins) where it is not as crowded, but it depends what you are looking for. Shop the whole thing before buying. Also, many mfgrs will give you something for free like a cap if you buy their product from a retailer at the show. Just ask! As for parking, if they have the Kellogg lot with the shuttle again it only costs $5 and the buses run frequently. There is plenty of room there to park pickups there. I too would avoid the ramp across Kellogg. I hope this helps.

Great post slabkiller!!!! YAY!!!
-
Oh, that sounds like so much fun!!!! I'll be there in spirit.
But since I can't be there, I'm sending a Lizard from the east coast. I'm hoping he brings me back a keychain or something. (Hint hint...I know they have freebies at those things!)
-
I'll pick ya up a bobber. ;D (Actually, very few freebies that I ever see)

Holy crap REB I couldn't have summed up the show any better and I too am there every year. Everything from the parking, food and the people to the deals on sunday.
The only thing I can add is that the vendors definitely WILL bargain. It Doesn't matter what the price tag says throw them a number, its like a giant used car lot in there!
-
Great post slabkiller!!!! YAY!!!
Thanks, phil.
yep that is awesome thanks for the info!!!
-
now the only question is do i go on sat before everything gets picked over.... or do i go sun while they are giving deals and more willing to bargain..... when is the majority of the ice members going to be there?
-
:%$#!: :%$#!: :%$#!: :%$#!: :%$#!: I'm not!!!! Three buddies can't make it now....guess I'll go play with my bobber... >:(
-
What Reb? I was expecting a Minnersoter bobber from the show!
Guess I'll have to use my New Hampsha bobbas instead.
-
I know, I know, Guinea, but ya know Surfy's coming later, Rick's truck blew up in Canada, a buddy in Wisconsin's wife is sick, and now my neighbor friends wife is working and says he "has to babysit"...go figure. ::) I'm low on cash anyway, nothing I was going to buy in the first place, and the F-150 Hawg sucks the gas...I just wanted to meet all the guys and have a good time, maybe a snort or two and some good food after the show. Been to it 6 times now, probably not much new...*sigh* If ya PM me your address, I'll send ya a Minnesota keychain AND a bobber... :woot:
-
I sat at that through that entire show for several years at the Iceshanty booth....
Here are some tips for you from my experience..
1)DO NOT attempt to be the first one there! You will fight to park, stand in line, and be crowded out. This is especially true on Saturday. Show up a couple hours after open after the first wave of crazies goes through. You will not regret it. No one starts running out of stuff till late Sunday.
2)Buy your beer and food from the folks in the Roy Wilkins side. It is better chow and cheaper.
3)The River Center Ramp is not that bad unless you ignore tip #1! I got my X-cab long box GMC in and out of there no prob. The Smith/Kellogg ramp works good too. You can sometimes grab a spot in the lot between the excel center and the Smith/Kellogg ramp too. There is sometimes weekend parking at the travelers building, there are two lots behind Dorthy Day Center, Google "lawson ramp" and "victory ramp" too. St. Paul is about the most parking friendly big city I have ever been in.
4)The seminars and speakers are worth listening too. Watch the clock and walk over to the wilkins side before they announce it. The seats fill up fast!
5)There is always a snow storm on Sat night.... :D
I'm not sure if I will head down or not. I may have to sit a year out to make it fun again. ;D
-
Anyone too excited to sleep? ;D
I see there is a Wild game tomorrow night... think I may pick my son up from school and get down there by 4pm to get a parking spot.

At the show right now. Not very busy. Didn't find anything yet other the the concessions, have my 7yo son with who will eat $40 in food if I let him. The CB honey brandy shots are good.

HA!! you can set your clock to that snow storm!!!! Every year I would close down the show on Sat night and fight a snow storm all the way home. I think I usually rolled in the yard at about 2am!! St. Paul to Milaca is about 1.5 hours on a sunny day with the radar detector on....
-
haha rebel, i think i might be heading up tomorrow.. but i will be in the new trail blazer i picked up, just signed a 3 year loan for it so i hope i dont freakin put her in the ditch!
-
Servocam....you went to the show last night, right? How was it?
-
Servocam....you went to the show last night, right? How was it?
I found t a bit dull :( Maybe because I really wasn't there to buy anything or look at anything specific. Was not very busy. Got down there around 4:15 and left at 8.
-
dull??? i found it overwhelming... we got there around 11 am or so.. and it was packed! there wasnt any new space age jigs or anything i havent seen before but it was still cool to experience the whole thing.. i think i spent more at applebees on the way outta town then i did actually at the show. but i will be going again next year thats for sure
-
WHERE'S MY KEYCHAIN??! :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: Was it what ya expected? First time is usually overwhelming, just like...er, never mind. Easy way to spend bucks, isn't it? See many bargains, or was it like we figgered?
-
I'll agree, too. Six years or so in a row...I just wanted to hook up with some folks. I guess if you've been there a lot, have a lot of gear, it gets kinda like "regular shopping", at least to me. Never have seen a great bargain there, except on lures. Just my opinion.
-
i got your a free keychain from Christian brothers rum of something another lol i was going to get you a ice fishing bikini team calender but the girly wouldnt even let me get one >:(
and yeah, there were a few deals to be had, i got some rapalas for 2 bucks each, and i bought this camera flash flashlight thingy ma-bob to charge your jigs, the guy offered to give it to me 5 bucks off, but i offered to pay full price if he they in a 15 dolla decal for free.. he took the bait.. hook line and sinker- sucka! lol
-
My son and I enjoyed the show. Even the wife tagged along for the first time. We berely beat the snow storm home...not that we had all that far to go. I think Santa is bringing me an eskimo 9416 this year. Nice sized shack for the $$. Saw a lot of Jiffy propane augers leaving. Personally, I was eyeing up the Eskimo shark Z71 10". Seems like a nice auger. But it is hard to justify replacing my Mag2000 after this many years of abuse and never missing a beat!

Any idea what the wanted for the Jiffy propane augers? They're pretty pricey normally, no discounts I've seen. :icefish:
-
I honestly didn't look. Just saw a bunch leaving. Probably should've checked, but really wasn't in the market for an auger this year. The Eskimo auger just caught my eye while I was waiting for my wife to get a pop at the concession stand by Joes sporting goods... lol
-
The propane augers I saw were the identical price you normally see. 520 for the 9 and 10" and 500 for the 8". I went to Joes on Saturday and saw them about 20 bucks off of that, cheapest I have seen them 480 and 500.
The show didnt seem to have any great deals. Ice armor suit for 220 was about the best. After you figure in parking and entry, i almost felt entitled to buy otherwise it was all for not. I just picked up a few lures and jigs. Nothing crazy.
Looking back, not sure i'd go again unless i really wanted to look at something. You can find better prices almost everywhere on the net or with our sponsors.
I went Friday and can't speak to the deals you may find on Sunday.
-
The Snobear girls were worth the price of admission ;)
-
The Snobear girls were worth the price of admission ;)
AMEN!!!!!!
-
Made er there around noonish on saturday and stayed till 5 or so, was kinda dissapointed in the prices, no deals to be found, Aqua Vu booth was a joke, no parts or cameras, they just wanted to brag about the new cell phone sized viewer.. Picked up a few glow jigs and headed for home, course it snowede like crazy and took me 2 1/2 hrs to get home.... Some of them ice girls need to lay off the tanning booths a little, looked like smoked tulibi !! lol
-
AMEN!!!!!!
If ya woulda told them I WAS coming, they probably woulda given ya that calendar... :roflmao: :roflmao:
-
If ya woulda told them I WAS coming, they probably woulda given ya that calendar... :roflmao: :roflmao:
yeah..... or they would have gave me the same restraining order they gave you~ ! lol  :callcops:
so how much longer till we are walking on water you think?
-
I believe I've always walked on water.... :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: I think it will be a lot sooner this year than any others....if we talk "Zumbro", "LOTW", (not Lake of the Woods, "lake of two walleyes") I'd say right after Christmas....
-

I got mine at Reed's for $440 for the 10". I heard they where sold out by 1:00 Saturday. I tried to shop around, but Thorne Bro's told me to go buy the one from Reed's for that price. They would not match it.

:roflmao:  lake of two walleyes will forever be its name to me now!
-
Better than "Lake of Two Women", now THAT would be scary.... >:D
-
pssshhhh i will have two women in my boat at all times, you know.. just in case the fishing sucks ;)
-
Better than "Lake of Two Women", now THAT would be scary.... >:D
Thank God for ice fishing. I have 4 girls in my house and another on the way. The dog is even a girl, but at least she listens! My son and I, along with the dog have our pop-up 6x12 ice cave to hide away from time to time.
-
Better than "Lake of Two Women", now THAT would be scary.... >:D
I know it Reb. Don't ya hate it when the women out-fish ya? :P :flex:
-
Couldn't tell ya. Never's happened here. Seems most of 'em in this town are too busy runnin' up to the MOA to get more bling to wear at the Ten-dollar-a-drink niteclub.
-
Since no show here, and no iceshanty booth... I sure missed all the pictures that I used to see from that show!
-

Bring it on!!!!!!! My bling consists of rabbit fur and sheep (fur? hair? lol).
Challenge accepted.
If we ever get ice. ;D

They didn't do a syracuse show this year?
-
I have new BLING coming tomorrow on the UPS truck , I hope....a "Mad bomber" type Bunny fur hat....courtesy of The Sportman's Guide... ;D
-
They didn't do a syracuse show this year?
In my understanding, yes, they did.
-
In my understanding, yes, they did.
First, I live in Syracuse. Second, it would have been today. Third.. there is NO show. It was cancelled by the promoter... >:( And now I have to order my thorn bros stuff online, AND not get the discount...
-
Cancelled?! That sucks!!! I wonder why? Kinda like Ice Shanty not being at the St. Paul show...
-
The Syracuse show seemed to get bigger every year. Granted, it was slow growth, but it still seemed to grow.
