Hello! Pic of finnish whitefish. Weight 1lbs. Caught with a red/yellow colored marmish at last winter. By the way, the first whitefish of my life.

Nice fish. And welcome to IceShanty - that's a great pic for a first post!

Thanks! Gonna take about 2-3 months before I can go to ice fish more of these. Snow keeps snowing, but the temperature is till above 0'C, so it takes some time before lakes gets frozen.  ;)

Way to go with the White's guys !  :icefish: I can remember getting into them like that here in New Hampshire with my Grandfather many moons ago. But due to massive lake front development, pollution run off, increased traffic and induction of non native species, the Whitefish here are a thing of the past !! Its really too bad, they were a blast to catch and one of my favorite eating fish !  :'(

That's sad. My nearest whitefish place is a little pond, and locates in about 500m from my house. People say, that whities aren't able to increase there, because its pH-level is too high. Luckily I know few more places to catch 'em, if this is true.

Here's a couple from a trip last winter to Green Bay.

Can't wait to get into 'em this year.

Here are some pictures of Maine whitefish, there are some lakers and salmon mixed in in these pictures but you should be able to tell them apart. These were caught about 5 hours from where I live in MA

Joser,

That's a nice mess of fish!

Were you fishing for the trout or where they an incidental catch to the whitefish?

Looks like you had fun! ;D

Tight lines and stay on top.

Actually the lake trout were the incidental catch and the salmon was once. The tip ups are set for the salmon and intended targets were the whitefish. They are not very common in the northeast.
