tried Evans road 25-26 FOW from 1100-1300, hooked one baby jackfish (released) for the first dropping line; no marks on Vexilar in next two hours. 6-8" black ice middle of the lake, 4-5" under thick snow, maybe 3-4" near shoreline where you can see through clear ice.

another great day on the ice. got set up yesterday at around 11am. lots of good ice 9" where i was. hooked up on a jumbo perch to start things off. then the walleyes came through and of course the pike. fairly steady action rest of the day. caught and released 5 walleyes 4 pike (nasty little toothy devils) hard on those $4 lures. and a perch. and a few missed hook sets. 2 of the walleyes were 19". will be checking ice conditions every day with this warm weather approaching.

Me and a buddy are thinking of walking on monday, is there a way to walk on just north of shields? Or where's a good spot to walk on where we dont have to walk extremely far. Also whats the ice looking like with this warm weather? Thanks

North end was 9" except near the shoreline it was about 4" right at one of the heaves. Lots of water on the ice from all the snow melting. So if walking on pick a good spot and still use caution.

also want to say I'm kinda surprised how good the ice is with this warm windy weather. And just to add that I never checked out the north end.i know that it melts pretty quick from the sun beating down on the rocks around the shoreline.maybe someone else can give an update. So can not tell you how the condition is there. As stated the other day i was thinking maybe a boat may be an option in a few days. Lol  I think we should be in good shape but will check  the ice condition every other day.

Was out on the north end yesterday, 7 or 8 inches of good hard clear ice.  Had a side by side on the ice up to about 40 yds off shore. Walleyes were biting decently during the day and pretty good near evening. Had to pack up early so I missed prime time. Looked like open water (about an 80ft circle of it)  just off the point across from shields, where it's really shallow over the rocks didn't get close enough to verify that it was actually open water

Was in the north end just east of sheilds. Walked out about 100 yards and had a solid 8+ inches of ice, but had one hole that drilled through with 4 inches of rotten ice underneath. Definate death trap if driving anything on the ice. Be careful. Caught a couple nice perch and a small walleye, lost quite a few though. Was a fun afternoon

Ice still . 9-10" good hard ice. Was out for a few hours today. Same as yesterday couple small pike on the flags (using shiners)and a few that was tripped but then dropped. Did manage a couple small walleyes late afternoon and then hooked up on 2 nice 17-18" jigging at dark. Colder temps in our future should have no worries from here on in.

Out for the evening rush in front of Shields.  Nothing big but saw lots on the flasher and camera.  Landed 5 in total but all dinks.

Anyone hitting perch yet?

Jumbo perch was hot a week ago. Drill 10 holes in 20+ fow in the lake basin and you should find one hole that get a bite a minute during the whole morning or dusk.

I saw quite a bit of activity on the lake today. Any of you out there?

I got my shack ready today to go out, I am at the mercy of others as I just had my rotator cuff repaired.

How deep is the ice out in front of Sheilds?

Appeared to be a vehicle out at Pelican point where the truck went through last year?

There were geese and open water not to long ago and I am still paranoid about going out on the ice.

Got out for the last couple hours today.  It's was wonderfully calm. 8+ inches of ice. Walked on. Marked several fish. They weren't too aggressive. Landed a small walleye and lost one at the hole. Great to finally get out.
Get outside.  It does a body and mind good!

Another great day on the ice. Spent the afternoon walking holes enjoying the thick fog... Kinda cool could hardly make out where you were. But the flag was popping pulled out 6 pike nothing big maybe 4lbs. - 1 keeper perch and 2 very small walleyes jiging. Then at around 5:30 flag.. Took my time let her chew awhile pulled her up.a very nice 3 1/2 lb walleye. Made the day. ;)

your best bet would be to look where the masses are. chances are their not all there for looks. and if your new to the game there is a lot of posts on here do the research. and remember give other people their space on the ice..good luck.

Hammered them again tonight, got 11 or 12 walleye. Only 3 keeper size, the rest were super aggressive 12 to 15 inchers

Do you have any tips on blackstrap whitefish? They are typically 4-5 pound and feisty!

By the way the ice is 10" with good-to-walk snow blanket and I've seen light vehicle driving all the way from Evans Road to the south dam.

Never fished the Strap, are there any CR limits there? Sounds like it gets a lot of fishing pressure in the winter!

I do believe its a cr1 lake... I only keep a couple for supper when i go home any ways, i like the catch, photo, release part of it any ways. Seem to always have some action there, and its close to the city. Good place to take the kids for a quick day outing
