Time-lapse at Chapman's is showing the ice moving.

What an unbelievable winter….
So depressing
you got that right    cancelled tournaments, vacations gone bad, disappointed sales in the small shops,  etc  etc

If ice couldn’t hold the person being rescued then yes I’d say the helicopter wouldn’t be able to touch down, very good observation

It was an amphibious chopper would have floated.

Now you know how us lake erie guys feel  ;D we didn't even smell ice this year and haven't had good ice on east side in 8yrs.  It's sad, i can't carry on the tradition as much and as easy as my father did with me.

I’m sure the pilot took into consideration if he landed could have made the rescue more difficult

Oneida isn’t the only place to icefish 😉

I know but its a good test of how ice is in the area. When your travel turns from few mins to a few hrs to half a day and getting longer just depressing.

, your right it’s depressing to make trips  but I enjoy fishing so it’s 4-600 miles a week or stay home and be miserable
And my spud is pretty trust worthy

The ice is packed in from Cleveland and East. To the West is mostly open water.

cant remember the exact year maybe 6-8 years ago we were getting them in fish creek all the way up to Blossvale the last weekend of season. Rather be on ice that time of year that was a close second though

I think those Frabill pro tip-ups float so you might just need the jet ski !!
