Did the ice on the east end hold up today after the wind?
I prefer a 2oz sinker for perch...when it hits 'em they won't feel a thing

To all anglers going out of Williams Beach…. Someone went through the ice, roughly in 9’ of water. He was able to get out safe! Erratic ice conditions in that area. Seasoned angler, using a spud!! It can happen to anyone! Be safe!!😎

Thanks for the heads up KP. I am glad he is safe!

Where I was last night I drilled a line of holes along a drop and every hole had a different ice thickness and color. The most variable conditions that I can ever remember.

Thanks guys.

At least the fish are cooperating better than the weather is.

There are still some rumblings of a cool down in a couple of weeks. It would be nice to limp through for a while longer.

I hear that. You think the ice might last through the next couple days? See upper 50s temps but it looks like rain will not be bad. Hoping to maybe get out Friday or Saturday and then looks like the temps will drop after that a little bit.

I think most of the ice will hang on through that. The issue will probably be the shoreline getting soft.

just got in was a little soft on top,,,, not sure how ice will hold up would really help if temps were below freezing at night but that even looks unlikely 44 for the day

Nice job Oneida1. Hopefully we hold through Friday then the forecast looks to drop maybe at least keep us going a little longer

I just returned from a trip to Lewis Point. Managed to catch a few perch and several under size walleye. I left around 2:00 because I felt uneasy about the condition of the ice. In my opinion the sun is doing a number on the ice. The top is rotting and it is not much better underneath. It was easy cutting hole with my auger which indicates to me the ice is rotting.  Put my spud through with one wack on the dark ice in a couple of places. It is only getting worse as the day progresses. With the warm temperatures and rain expected tomorrow, I would not expect the ice to be safe this weekend. Today was my last trip to Oneida this ice fishing season. This was the shortest ice fishing season ever!!!

I also just returned from Lewis Point... I was scheduled to meet a buddy at his place at 2:00 to venture out together.  Since I had to travel down 31 for another reason... I went out solo at about 1:15  ... he met me on the ice a little after 2:30 ... didn’t even set up ... spud went through on two half Hearted strikes... he strongly encouraged we get off pronto - out at 32’.  The ice changed that quickly - indeed I owe him

Remember fellas black ice at the end is not your friend ,be very cautious, I’ve stuffed my spud through 9” of that stuff , plus as the water warms from the streams and rivers it will melt at both ends

Next three days all above freezing. Get your boats ready. Three trips so far for me. Love late ice when we have it with white on top. Black just soaks up that sun too much.

Boats!?!? Yeah good luck with that. Next week or so is not looking good and I won’t touch that lake with a 10’ rod but I’m not giving up all hope. I think there is still a chance of walkable ice the first 2 weeks of March. It’s worst case scenario not safe to icefish but not safe to boat fish either lol. Should make for a good May either way I guess

Even if we get extreme cold, the ice that’s out there is still junk.
