Too much time...
« on: Jan 23, 2021, 05:32 PM »
Too much time on my hands has led me to wonder...I wonder if onion, raw or cooked, would work as bait.  A slice of onion has a good shape, and lord knows it smells.

Any of you ever tried it?  Lol, maybe I just need a sandwich!

A piece of garlic would work better than an onion. But you can try it.
I've tried garlic powder and onion powder as attractants, they like the garlic powder but turn away from the onion.

Don't guys who make their own trout dough typically use garlic? You can also buy garlic scent roe so there must be something to the garlic scent. Maybe attract only a few species of trout. Personally i haven't had much luck with that stuff. I haven't ever heard of anyone using onion.. but than again I've had plenty of jack try to eat my camera...
Now you got me thinking.. you could probably try the ol' hotdog technique but take it one step further. Insert onion through the hotdog and try to make a glide bait!  ???
