I don't hook sleds together this way! If they stick to the ice, or if I put some kids in them, the sled could pull apart and break.

Run a length of rope, from the front to the back of your first sled, then hook on the second. In this way the load is being pulled by the rope, and not the strength of the plastic sled.
Then you can haul however much you want without the risk of breaking the plastic in the cold.

I would also cut some pieces of PVC pipe and put your rope through it. It keeps thing a little better when you go to stop.

First off, please excuse the mess in the background. It was a flurry of parts, tools and sawdust during this build.
I posted this in the "SLED MODS" thread as well, but thought in might go better in the "INVENTIONS" thread, as I designed this thing from scratch.
Here is my new "Modular" sled. The black side panels, front bait bucket and back tray/rod holder is removable with one thumb screw one each sidewall of the sled, for example If I want to fish, say a 2 line limit lake (here in NH) when I will be only jigging, I can take my tipup panel off for the day quickly. also all of the panels, including the rod holder/tackle tray on the back can be removed and stored inside the "tub" of the sled.
I started with a large inventory tote from a manufacturer that recently went out of business. From there I fabricated the brackets and "lift kit" from aluminum, laid thin sheet steel under the belly and rolled it up front, and the rest is repurposed materials I had left over in my shop (1/2" plywood, pvc, hardware, latches and hinges, etc). It drags super slick. The tray on back fits my clam shell tackle boxes so they are at the ready when I need to change up lures quickly. EVERYTHING I need is in one container now. No more digging through multiple bags, bins and Milk crates to find what I need, no more' "Damnitt, I left that back in my other bag!" I utilized the Frabill bucket insert to use as a bait container (cuz I dont really NEED to carry around a 5 gal. bucket for 2 doz minnows, eh?
Oh, and the HT bucket clamp-on rod holder was modified to screw (with the 1/4-20 t-nut insert in the cover) onto  the cover of the sled, and can still be adjusted to any angle, and holds solid too. This was a project I am proud of, (and happy to see done, cuz I had WAAAAY too much time onto it lol)
Anyway, enjoy...

Battery cover for my drill.

I had some neoprene lying around so I decided to make a insulated battery cover. I figure it might extend the battery life a little.

Still waiting for ice in NY so since my hut is set up in the garage I played around the other day and noticed I need some hooks to hold things, I like a old towel handy to dry my hands or wipe slime off etc. so I came up with this

I used 1" PVC pipe split just shy of center, then cut 2 notches in it 1- 1 1/2" long. Use a heat gun to warm it up and bend it with pliers. Hold it with one hand and spray water on it so it will set it in place. It snaps on my poles but I used some black electrical tape to make sure it stays put. Have my scoop off the ice now also. Keep it facing inward so when you fold up tent it will lay down nicely and wont cause any damage. I left my towel on the hook and plan to do so after watching it all fold up nice. Hope some one can use this in their hut. Now where is the ice?

Just got done making 6 Ice Anchors for my Clam Bigfoot.
I plan on taking my drill out instead of hand screwing.
The shack comes with straps already attached at each tie-down point so all I have to do is clip on the carabiner.
This should make the process much faster.

1/2" Rubber Insulated Wire/Cable/Pipe Fasteners
3 1/8" Carabiner

Let us know how these work, I tried lag screws a couple years ago and they wouldn't cut through the ice for crap.

It's really too bad they can't use more of the material of the screw body on the flighting and separate that with more space between each.

As it is, the blunt tip makes it very difficult start into the ice.

The bulky body cracks the ice.

Even with a pilot hole made with a drill bit, clogs with ice shavings.

However, Eskimo got the anchor  RIGHT.       ;)2 :flex:

Grinding a small notch in the tip, like a self tapping sheet metal screw, may help. Or you could heat them up, then drive it home. That is if they don't already work?

Same here, I actually tried the expensive Simpson Titen HD screws too, no dice.

And they make an adapter that fits either a 5/16" deep socket, or a drill chuck.  I use a speed driver with the deep socket.  Had to scrape the powder coat paint off to get it to fit in the socket.  No pilot hole.  No problem.

So I took one out today to test for you guys. (No need for the shack today since it was 47 degrees out) They drove through the ice perfectly. No issues at all. Drove it in, drove it out. Even drove it back into the same hole with no issues. I'll re-test again on Sunday when temps drop to -8 for the high.

To further the discussion on the ice anchors: I have a Frabil HQ hub shack, came with Frabil ice anchors. I made an anchor driver out of a spark plug socket (took angle grinder and ground full depth slot into socket) that mates up to my cordless drill via a socket adapter to spin the anchors in. I may have spun it in too fast (heated up) and too far because when I went to remove the anchor I broke the loop end off, the threaded end was frozen hard into the ice. Lesson learned not to bury the anchor so deep.

I thought the Titen HD screws would have more shear strength and be less likely to break but I couldn't get them to bite. Maybe I should try again.

I use large eye screws for anchors.  I cut a small notch in the tip (like a self tapping sheet metal screw) with a Dremel tool.  I usually pre-drill a hole first just to make it easier, but they do go in without the hole.  Ill just stick a screwdriver or something else into the eye to screw it in or out.  You just have to make sure the ones you buy have a sharp tip, some are blunt.  I dont use anchors too much, only when Im packing a tent and extras for the wife and guests.

I got a good deal on some used ice screws on Ebay.  They are used by ice climbers for an anchor point when they are climbing.  They go in by hand, unscrew easily, and hold really good.  Just look for used ones, new are expensive....

Those ice screws that mountain climbers use are expensive, but I bet they work well.
