I came up with mod for my auger.  The flighting on augers is some what sharp and can be hard on shelters, bags and about any equipment it rides against.  So....I bought some door trim that goes along the edge to prevent door dings, and wrapped the flighting edge from top to bottom.  It fit perfectly and looks good.  It will also protect the edge of the flighting from dings which should help prevent rust.  The plastic trim has some adhesive so its adhered pretty well.  The plastic is pretty hard and slick so shouldn't cause any binding in the hole...if anything it should help reduce any binding.  Now if we can just some ice so I can try it out.

Let us know how that holds up after drilling a few holes.

I would like to know how well that holds up too. I have been looking for something like this. I just didn't know if it would stay on when drilling.

Wally World has something similar for door edges in the automotive area.  Heat it up for flexibility before putting it on.

Well, it's nto really an invention but to protect my rods I bought a cheap Hard sided Bow case (one that doesn't have arrow storage in one side, just egg crate type foam in the top and bottom) and use that to store and transport my rods in. Wasn't very expensive (relatively), works fantastic and would take a lot to get damge through it. A hard sided gun case would work too.

Anything that looks like this inside would be sufficient....

I'm sure it's been done, but it's very effective. It's a piece of old hickory ax handle added to the sled rope.  Takes the bite of rope off your hands.

I took an old edger and copied the Mille Lacs Ice Chipper design and attached it to a six ft. long hiking stick.  It rips through ice and is very light.

It is deadly.  It will also slice right through the rear of my sled and through the seat of my car.  I gotta make a cover for that blade.

Nice, looks like something to fight polar bears with. :D

I've heard of some people using old tennis balls as covers, not sure if that would cover it well enough.

Just make sure you get one of the real good quality ones (probably make in China). Mine only rewinds them part way so they only play the commercials now ...

I described this exact idea to someone last year, having never seen this thread before. You are clearly a brilliant man  ;D. Great idea, hope you make it work well and make a bunch of money off it.

1 tube 3 blades, 3 blades pusher and the pusher assembly..joint on a mower motor(drive whit synthetic oil) that's it.. i've made one  but manual with only one blade  ..it was efficient but to mutch trouble because you got to set it all with a part of floor with bearing..it was working ,,but to mutch troubles! the reason that i think to build that thing..is,,one day,,i was trying to adjust the deep of mi little rapala pilky(now they call that a Rapala jigging) with a Polar underwater reel tip-up..it was a shame to adjust it to 2-3 inches over the bottom, and, suddently..a beast..just took it and run...just try to figure..that the little part that supposed to retain the flag..run so fast that it look like a peice of 2 dolar in metal here...and forget the fact that i got dacron 60lbs on it..the beast just run away with all my braid and cut it like it was 2lbs....so that sharp ice under the hole does the cutting job...So..that's why, if i'm going again to try for those bigs musky..i'm gonna fix that thing before...I got all here,,but too mutch busy!  The record of this lake was  a 57''...the head pass on the hole but not the body..we haved to enlarge the hole with an ax(very carefully) so that lake got some *****s with a lot of power easily able to cut many fishing lines if the ice got to mutch cutting edge under! :-\

Not sure they make them anymore,  but they sell an attachment for your auger that does the same thing.
