I  made a gear sled very similar to this this year, and that milk crate thing is a great idea.  But do you have any trouble with it trying to tip or slide out when the bucket is full of water?

Nope. The Buggy Cord keeps it quite secure and the bucket handle latches onto the top of the sled and mades it very secure. It never moves at all tbh.

Nice job, one of my sleds was 3 milk crates wire tied together and skis uner the thing. It made things lots lighter

Dont have any pictures yet but will get some up when i get my stuff out pre-season. I use 10" Frabil Polar tipups and I mounted pieces of some smoke detectors in the little tackle box and rigged upa circuit so the alarm goes off when flag goes up. Pretty easy to make. Works great for places where not a lot of others fish as not to annoy people. I can sit in my shanty all day (if I want) without looking all the time for flags....Just have a circuit wire on flag pole.

here is a pic of my sled made from milk crates.

It's a good sled, but it has a few flaws that will be corrected before this season starts.
Here's a pic of the sled loaded up with all my gear.

That's a good idea, but how will it pull in a foot of snow? Just thinking of the crates being so low to the ground and all. This is what I did to my jet sled to make life a bit easier. This season it will be pulled behind my sled!!!

Well I mentioned that it had some flaws that will be fixed this season. That is one of them. Someone on another board suggested stapling a roll-up sled across the bottom and it will ride over the snow and keep the crates from getting loaded with snow.  ;D

Skis and an old Thule roof rack, and my DX3000 of course.  This pulls very easily.

That's the best part!  I've been thinking and thinking of what to build for my sled.  Just completed it the other day, and I'm not quite satisfied.  I think it looked better on paper.  I guess it's back to the drawing board....

If I can buy it for $100 I'll spend $150 to build it myself.

With me its more like " They want a $100 for that? I could make my own for way less" Then after it is complete I have atleast 50% more into it than if I were to buy it outright. Always have the stuff you HAVE to add to it.  ;D

NEED SOME JET SLED ADVICE.....  To raise my Jet Sled up off the snow, I mounted it to snow skis by attaching four (4) wood blocks 2" x 4"
x 6" High to the four corners of the sled.  It pulls fine on a flat surface (ice or snow) but sways from side to side and will turn over on un-even snow or going up / down a hill.
How can I stabilize that side to side sway??

Hi " IceBalls"
G'Day
Are you saying that it is Top Heavy?

Do you think you need a wider base. ( funny my first thought was one of the trucks that a guy sees where someone has the big tires on it and has the huge body lift kit  ( so the cab is 20 feet in the air) on it but if you look real close his rear differential is not much higher than a regular 4X4. But it looks Top heavy.

What about removable out side runners?

And do you pull it with a rope or do you have a solid fixed handle to pull it with? ( for better control)

Question = You said you raised your Jet sled up off the snow... right... Why? was it hard to pull.
With my Otter 2 Mini Ice sled ( which pulled ok considering what i wanted to load it up with at the time ( Pack rat here)
I kept it low,.... BUT I put on those  ( can't remember name of material) white Plastic sliders on. and a solid handle and it pulls like a dream.. and I pile even ore stuff on it now.

Have Ya got any pics?

I don't know why you raised it. It is made to drag on the snow. I would say you are loading it wrong. Keep the heavier items in the back and it will pull better. If you still want to have it raised, you will need to spread out the skis at least six inches on each side.

I made a....Sorry i dont really know the name in english(I'm french!)..but it's for made the angle less below the ice because for big muskys and pikes..they often wins because below it's a 90° angle of sharp ice...

I made this model,, but it take a lot of our energy....

Next time, when i found an old motorized auger..this one's gonna be my project, with retractable blades..

My last shanty...I sold it because it was not unmountable(take too much space..)

This is my future project if i keep the snow mobile..if it's not i've got another ideas.. ;)

I gonna see about it..

Very well done steven.

Is the "trou de 1" threaded to mate with the shaft to bring the triple blade up with force?

Or do you have a different design?

Hope all is well Sir.

I like your slammer. Your wood work is awesome.
( I bet it works like a charm eh? We will have to test it.)

I have a jet sled also and when in deep snow with the current weight I have in It, it is Very difficult to pull with any amount of snow as it doesnt ride on top and drags (and yes its loaded with as much weight to rear.....and i dont have other transportation on ice to pull it with. I was considering something to help keep it above the snow but removable for normal use.

Well the original design proved to work well except for the fact that when pulled in the snow the milkcrates got loaded up with snow. So this year I addressed that problem. Here is a pic of the original design.

And here are some shots of the sled with the improvements.

Okay, I'm sure you have all seen the hooks that Frabill sells for portable shanties. The piece of bent wire on a velcro strap that they sell at 6 bucks for two pack. Well I thought to myself why buy it when I can make it.
What do you think?.

That'll work just fine.
Life would not be as easy, without velcro and duct(gorilla) tape.
Pop rivets are handy to have around also.

I would have bent the wire around the other in place of the weld. The way it is now I think it will open up and fail. Depends on how you use them though.
