It's a wrap
« on: Mar 23, 2023, 09:35 AM »
Kicked off spring with my last ice fishing outing of the season yesterday. Unfortunately, none of the trophy Northerns I was after were interested in coming to play. Weather was amazing though, was down to my undershirt by noon.

It's been a crazy tough ice season due to the unseasonably warm winter we had, picture heavy blog post is up at:

Wishing everyone a great open water season, hope to see you all back here for first ice.

No such luck here, crap ice getting worse, and crazy busy schedule until season closes on April 1st. Next step is likely carping in ON or trout / lakers in Adirondacks / Champlain region.

With current ice conditions & long range weather forecast, some areas just might be fishable on the hardwater late April/early May this season !!

Here in the Black Hills of South Dakota we still have 24 or more inches of ice and nothing in the forecast to change that.  Not sure if I am bragging or complaining.  I am heading out on the ice in the morning but kind of wishing for open water...

Central Idaho is still fishing in mid winter form. Weather barely up to freezing, and still snowing up high. This will be one for the books. Could probably sneak on for another 2 weeks.

Still plenty of ice on many reservoirs in Wyoming. Been one of the coldest winters here this year with many record low temperatures.

Closest I've been to summer time ice fishing was a hike up to Hope Lake a few years ago.
