i use the regular short hoses with my weber grill with no problems, why is that?

You could go quite some time without any problems ...then bam its a problem .My buddy was using a Big Buddy for quite some time(3-4 yrs) in his shed during the chilly/cold months w/o the green hose or filter ...then the heater became very hard to light ...hard to stay lit... till finally stopped.Now new heater and green hose .

I use the filter. Connect at the heater after the hose. It’s the hose breakdown not the propane that causes issues as some others have stated.

Because heater orifices are much smaller than grill burner "orifices".

About 8-10 years ago had a couple of issues with gas lanterns and the buddy heater.
Other people that year I knew had issues too.
That summer I had conversation with a lp tech he told me to use a filter to eliminate that.
He said the reason was it was such a cold winter that so much lp was being used that it wasnt getting filtered enough because they could not keep up with the demand.
Not sure if you need the filter but I've never an issue since.

My weber short hose starts with a regulator (i.e., has a regulator on the tank end).  That means the gas in the hose is low pressure.  Also larger orifices as already stated.

New @ $30.00...no hoses...no filters...no tanks...no canisters...fuel @ $7.00 / gal (gotta hurry, they're almost out)....3/4 gal. tank @ 5000 btu lasts 20 hrs...and NO FUMES (contrary to popular belief)...I'm good...nuff said.

i have a couple of the webers that have bottle gas hook ups. hooked to 11lb and 20 lb tanks no regulators. the hole where the gas comes out into the burner looks pretty small to me. I also have a buddy heater that I picked up at a yard sale that doesnt seem to work right, as described in this thread. just bought a new buddy heater dont want to screw it up.

the main thing i dont like about the coleman heaters is it would be hard to cook or heat up anything with it. know any cooking modifications?

Walmart is probably your best bet for fuel. If asking about heater, it's no longer made...E-bay or maybe Craig's List.

Except the 10 foot Mr Heater Hose that Mr Heater designed not to use a filter.
