Colorado First Ice Predictions, 2019
« on: Oct 10, 2019, 10:55 AM »

Getting close out there.  Ok, just like last year: need to pull a fish through the ice to count as first ice.  State the date below!

I predict a crazy someone will post up on Nov. 9th.  Might be me...might not.  I'll probably fish more late fall open water this year  ;D

Winner gets a lure pack at the yearly Colorado gathering this year.  Not sponsored by IceShanty or anyone, just from me for fun.   ;)

Nate, is a mere assertion of first fish primacy going to carry enough credibility? Photo required? That day's Denver Post front page in the foreground like a hostage demand?

That lure pack that you're dangling out there might tempt a weakling (from Wyoming for example) to post up a mid-season photo and a bogus claim for the fame and glory.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

Photo required!  And at least some part of the background should be visible, so we can tell if it's a legit early ice spot here in Colorado.

And I still owe beers to Skifisher and dntbeamenace from last year!

Early ice has to be safer than driving into work around here this morning...it really sucked.

Big..you mean to tell me we’re on a fishing site, with fisher people, and worrying about someone stretching the truth? Say it isn’t so! No one would do that would they? ::)

:roflmao: :roflmao:   - will remember newspaper this year!

Looking at the weather I like 10/26, someone can probably beat me if they have off mid-week.  I might have a chance to look around the week prior but I'd be shocked if it was ready.

BigBass thanks for upping the ante - I'd much rather win booze, lures or fishing info than money (cuts out the middle man!)

Newspaper is a good idea!  But not required...if someone is really gonna lie about their first fish thru the ice this year...to get a little lure pack...well, then.   ::)

The goal is to go to FRR next weekend. I hope there's some kind of ice.

I'm pretty sure FRR is ready for ice fishing had someone go up there yesterday waiting to hear back.

FRR is kinda deep to freeze up this fast. SM is always first.

100% agree.  But do I have the motivation to hike the uphill and then be accosted by groups of hikers that show up by 9am?    ;) ;D

...i think we all know the answer there.  Funny enough google photos was just reminding me that exactly 1 year ago today, I was walking on water in that general area.

Last year was a great one for ice fishing, have a feeling this year is going to be even better. Been out of town so not hitting the ice anytime soon, plan for the weekend is to get all the gear ready.

last year I hiked up to SM and literally stepped into slush and water below then I went up FRR and it was solid, maybe in the past years SM is ready first but last year it was different. This is got me so excited I should be sleeping but can’t.

I am just waking up from my summer slumber! Winter is here. today drive into boulder was not as bad, but the Californian made the drive worse.

ill be at Granby/Wolford this weekend and send you guys a condition report if the snow is good to drive. planning to hunt for some open water Koks on this mini vacation. but im hearing Antero is already forming a layer and Terryall is in the same process.

Little bit of skim ice on the inlet at stagecoach.  Although it currently feels like winter Im unwilling to say winter is here, hoping for a few more 50 degree days up here.  Still another month at least before the water in the larger mountain reservoirs is cool enough to freeze,  But this is def a great start!!!   I did put the boat away this week BUT I still have 3rd and 4th season elk tags to fill so maybe after thanksgiving ill be ready for ICE

I feel your pain i live in the Tech Center but drive all the way to North Boulder for work. We got to meet up for a quick ice session out there when ice forms in boulder. :)

Looking forward to the report. Crazy to think we are getting ice fishing weather so soon, hope that the cool temps hold in Nov out there for Taryall or Antero..
