For trout, I use #6 Eacgle Claw Lazer Sharp Octopus hooks if I can'f find the Gamagatsu octopus hooks. I use black hooks if I am fishing in less than 15fow and then go to the blood red hooks if I am fishing deeper. And yes, I do set my traps up accordingly!

LOL

It depends a ton on what I'm fishing for and conditions and time of year as well.  I really have good results with most of the newer tackle once I figure out how to fish it for what the fish want. I do hang on to my old proven tackle too though. Just have to keep fishing to figure out whats working. and keep you eye on the vex to see how fish respond!

I was always a single hook jig fisher until last hardwater i was out with sightfisher and he had these micro treble hooks and was raking them in on it.....nothing special...no fancy paint....just a hook and bait....

i base my decision on price, too.
cheap just doesn't cut it.
by the time i get fishing, i have so much invested- time off work, gas, gear, etc., a couple of bucks a year for the best hooks i can get ain't much- especially  because thats where the rubber meets the road when it comes to "hooking" fish.
for pan fish i like small gamigatsu octopus, in red. as much as anything, the red helps me see the hooks on the ice.
my buddy uses tiny trebles, and does well with them. they are hard to find around here, if i try them i'll probably have to look on line. any leads?
also, i keep an eye on the sharpness of the point. it does matter.
grandpa told me-"never wrestle with a pig. you both get muddy and the pig likes it".

I like small, sharp, and rust free hooks for ice fishing.
"Oh honey don't worry ice fishing season is almost over"     Oh Yeah, then we got steelhead, then bass, then big lake salmon, then fall river salmon........etc.

 Only as large as needed, thin diameter and as sharp as possible with the barb pinched for panfish. Price? No object !!!!!!!! Really don't need nearly as many as we tend to carry.

I will use colored tear drops for crappie and perch. On my tip-ups usually a red treble hook
