Went out on the pier today with a buddy, didn't even get a hit. Fished from 10:30-3:00. There was one other group of guys and they said they had got one just before we got out there.

Gotta fish the south pier in Muskegon thats the "fisherman pier" I fished the fishermans pier last year and I saw some nice fish pulled in.
I caught a fish once!

There were quite a few of people over there, counted between 15 and 22 guys all day while we are out there. It just sucks I live like 2 mins from the north pier so I have a hard time justifying driving 20 mins ALL the way around the lake. But I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to make the trip at least once and give it a try!

North side of Muskegon.

DEATH ROCKS !!!

Too much of a p.i.t.a. to find good rod-holder spots, You darn near need 12 foot long rod-holders. Netting a fish is another NOT FUN thing to do on the North breakwall with the slippery rocks. Add the march from the parking lot down the beach to the water, along the shoreline to the pier trail over the pier to the inside and THEN rock-hopping out on the breakwall .... it's about the worst access to ANY of the piers in West Michigan. PLUS you need a State Park sticker!

Fishing IS the deadliest sport they say.

I get dragged out there once every couple of years by a buddy with an itch. Was dangling my feet in a gap in the rocks one day and had a raccoon grab my boot lace. Scared the crap out of me.

Now I just go to the South Pier on a north wind or Grand Haven North Pier on a south wind. I'd rather fish the beach if conditions are right. Whitehall, Ludington, and Manistee piers are fine too for a road-trip.

BTW - they DID bang the fish on the South Pier that day.

If I lived on the north side, I'd try the end of Memorial Drive or Duck Lake usually before doing the Death Rocks.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

HAHA my 2.5 ft rod holders worked GREAT out there yesterday, mostly because I just pounded them into the ice shelf that was still covering the north side of the rocks. Well you guys have convinced me that I should be fishing the south side, the only problem now is getting up early enough to get a spot out there haha.

I did grow up down the road and I was on those rocks ALL the time as a kid so I'm pretty comfortable walking all the way out there. We used to go out every spring and jump off the end of the pier on the first warmer day. Sure was a dumb idea, it was usually a pretty cold walk back  8)

Any of you guys looking for a hell of a nice jet sled?

Well I finally decided to call it a season and packed away my ice gear. Ended up with close to 1800 smelt this season, very few keeper perch though ( enough for a couple meals) , no keeper lakers... I've got some spots pegged for next season already.I'll be ready when you all come for "the gathering"
Watch out steelhead, here I come.....   See you all on the soft water site
