Ice sticking to flip over
« on: Dec 24, 2013, 01:59 PM »
Has anyone found a solution to ice build up on the bottom flaps of the flip over? I'm referring to the flaps that sit on the ice. I typically shovel snow/slush to block the wind, but when it's time to leave, there are big chunks froze to the flaps. I knock them off, just thought there might be a better way. Something to spray on them, that will not cause the black rubber coating to come off.

Changed my middle name to "You should have been here yesterday".         Remember it's called fishing, not catching.

i use atsko to water proof things, but even if its been water proofed, ice will still collect
just like the bottom of your sled is water proof, but snow still collects to it

Yeah, I set the shanty up in my garage, check the bolts and spray any spots where light comes through, with spray rubber coating. Not that big of a hassle, better than sitting on a bucket.

I get them too.  Sometimes so bad I have to stomp on the ice chunks to break them off.

It's a clam, so of cores it's blue. I thought about painting it black, so the sun would help heat it. I did not want it to look too redneck though.

If you can, avoid the slush. Bank with dry snow.
This works well for me.

drill your holes . shovel it flat and let it freeze for 10min. place your shelter and bank with fresh dry snow only. if winds still a issue . use your ice anchors. froze mine in so bad last year w/ slush i tore a flap trying to get it out.
