This is the best way. Soft cases just don't give enough protection.

I use the Otter Sportsman rod case with 28-32 inch rods and spinning reels, you just have to collapse the handle

I've always used a bag but with two custom rods now I am seriously considering a hard case.

I ordered this one right before Christmas. It was on sale for $60.00 at the time & got free two day shipping w/Prime. The description states it holds 8 ice rods, but I put 6 rods in it & it was a little to packed for my liking. I have 4 rods in it now which I feel much more comfortable with. I think it's a bit overkill size wise for me, but very happy with the style & protection it provides.

I have the Frabill hard case ...works well .

I also have the Striker Ice Transporter ...very nice hold 5 rods and easy to get in/out

be prepared both take up some real estate in your sled/shelter

Eagle Claw also makes a hard side case.

Any hard type case over a soft case.  I was always a guy that just dropped them in a bucket.  Well, 3 broken rods last year alone changed my mind.  I went with a clam case from fleet farm. 60$ or so.

I'm going to see if I can find a short shotgun or arrow hard case. I can't believe what they charge for an ice fishing hard case. I mean it's 3-4 x times the cost and pretty much the same with maybe the addition of some velvros strap which can be had cheaply.

Got an Otter Outdoors Sportsmans Case about two or three years ago and it is essential. It is tough as nails and you could run it over with an ATV. It can hold up to six rods with the handles folded and has foam on the inside to protect rods if they get beat up in the sled.

I took a plano hard arrow case and just put foam from my old mattress pad that wasn't being used in it and fit 4 rods perfectly

I got mine for about $20

I tried different cases and finally went with the Otter Sportsman last year. I wouldn't go fishing without the case. I carry five rods in it, and it's awesome.

I hate my 6 rod bag to start with! glad I got that out of the way. I've been looking at the big striker bag though, has the rod protector tubes built into it, and thinking about giving it a try. I just can't see how it can be any worse that this tangled mess of a bag!

well pulled the trigger and bought a clam rod locker. holds the 6 rods, kinda crowded but they fit nice. will see how it holds up.
