Ice hoggers
« on: Jan 31, 2013, 03:27 PM »
Has anyone tried the icehogger? My son showed me what his does and its great. No need for skimmer, and no slush and water on your legs. Piles the chips in one pile away from you.

there's no need for those. really. after you drill your hole, just kick the snow or ice out of the way, and then put your auger back down in, give it some throttle and yank it up out. it'll pull almost every thing out. just keep your feet clear if your shoes aint waterproof. this probably wont work with hand powered augers. try it you'll like it. one less thing to carry. ifs the snow is deep this probably wouldn't work to good, as it would all go back into the hole.

Its light pvc and never would freeze. One could cut all five holes and setup before anotherone could kick snow and skim out.

I guess i wouldn't need it. I drill and let the auger pull the slush out. No skimmer.

In Ideal conditions looks pretty cool, but in reality just another piece of equipment you don't need to lug with ya.  I doubt it is any faster, and if it is plastic then it will end up in pieces in cold weather like all other plastics.  Spend the money on a good pair of boots so your feet don't get wet ;)

Neato, I think it's a little bit of a solution looking for a problem though.

I keep seeing all these posts about kicking snow and slush piles away from holes...  This leaves me wondering, am I the only one who carries one of the collapsible trunk snow shovels to make life easier?  Clear a 3 foot square with a couple passes, drill the hole, clear the excess, then skim.  None of it takes long enough to look for another solution.  And, even with this device, I'd want my skimmer because I expect my holes to be perfectly cleared before I'll set up....

still think it would freeze up  some in the really cold weather.  small clump of slush way down in and would block the flow.  many times I have ice built up 1/2 inch or better on the auger. and that is open and most can drip off.

I like the idea and like the magnetic blade cover also. But I would have to modify my auger mount on my ATV to make this new concept work for me. The price is pretty reasonable ....

I saw it.....and I got one.......I find the comments of those that don't have one, very interesting. I admit the cost is excessive for the amount of materials in it, but then there's nothing else out there like it!! Do you need one?............heck no!!!!  But, you don't even need an auger.........just use that axe behind the seat in your rig.  And finally, FWIW, if you decide to pony up, you won't be disappointed, I'm sure not. I've purchased a whole lot more for icefishing that has been far more worthless!!
