Fenwick Elite Tech Ice Rods - two month user report
« on: Jan 20, 2012, 08:24 PM »
The build quality isn't that great after about 30 trips to the lake. The blank on my Med separated from the handle without any abuse. (I keep it in a case too)Looking at the glue residue, they hardly applied any to it and/or used poor quality stuff. Also, the cork handle is delaminating. I thought it was solid cork, but it is a very thin layer glued to a foam handle. So oils on your fingers from fish, salmon eggs, etc. soften the glue causing the cork to fall apart. The action of the rods aren't too bad, but sensitivity is lacking. (I also have a ML) My next rods won't be Fenwick. I have open water Fenwicks that were made in the USA from the 80's and they have never had an issue after 25 years of use. The quality of this China stuff is a crapshoot.

I haven't ran into any trouble out of my UL, yet.  I was considering buying a ML or M and seting up for trout/walleye/pike..

Had great luck with my 2 ULs, ML and M. I did have an accident with one UL which was dropped right on the tip and snapped, but what you going to do.

Great Rods!

My FENWICK ET ICE 26ML is one tough little rod--I sat my 210 lb. body on it in my Shappell Rover 1.0 and flattened the second largest eyelet flush to the rod. Thought sure it would snap as I tried to bend it back into shape, but it didn't. It's the Tica Cetus GV500 reel that I put on it that I'm having issues with--the drag doesn't work when the temps are in the teens or colder, and here in NH that's pretty much all the time.

i have same setup and the rod is amazing but mine is 28ML, iv been out about 15 times with tons of perch being caught i also have never had a problem with the tica reel smooth as a babys bottem, i can feel if the fish breaths on my jig very nice rod!!!!

i love my elite tech rods.  Does any one know if they come with any warranty. had the tip snap off for no reason while relining my pole last night wondered if the company would replace it or the store i bought it from.

I bought another Elite Tech, yesterday, Cabelas has them on sale for $17.  I got a 28" ML, if I can find the 27"M I'll buy that one too!

Looks to me like availability is getting pretty slim on most online sites. I am trying to find a Medium heavy and am having a hard time finding one everybody is sold out for the season it seems like  :'(
