New Ice Spikes out this year.
« on: Nov 08, 2010, 06:47 AM »
Hey,
I saw 2 new ice spikes on the Cabela's website.

Yaktrax XTR Traction Device - $50

Ice Trekkers Diamond Trackers -  $40

Both are chains that slip ver your boots with rubber retainers. I am still not in the spending mood this year but I really like how the Yaktrax look.

What do you guys think?

These look pretty good. I may have to give them a try this winter. Took a couple small spills last year running after a downed, tip down. Ice is pretty darn hard !!! lol

Screws in your boots.
work great  till    the first time you forget to take them off before you come into the house   messes up the hardwood floors     becomes skates on tile   if your not first confronted  by the wife!!!!

I love yaktrak, but when i bought my TransAlaskan boots from Cabelas they would never fit right, these new ones should do the trick.

I don't see how just chains on the first pair is going to cut it.
Ya need points to get gription on ice.
I like the "barbed wire" on the second pair, but looks like they would shred up your tread.

Thanks for sharing the new gear.

I guess I'll have to go back to the simple Arctic Spurs again for the pac boots.

I use the full sole creepers. Having the extra 1/2" off the ice also helps keep my feet warmer.

I've been thinking of something like these for some time.  Just haven't figured that I truly will need them.

I think they look light and stable but probably will not last long.. I see where the chain is attached to the rubber andhad similiar designed ice cleats fail after one or two seasons.. I like my stabilicers with screw lugged solid vibram soles with the velcro nylon straps. Until these fail me, I have no need to try any other ice creepers/cleated footware

There are spikes where the chain meets that orange plate thing.  Ive been looking at the yak trax and the microspikes from katoolah or how ever you spell it.  I like how the yaks have metal where the chain attaches to the rubber, where as the micros attach to the rubber.  i feel the rubber may eventually tear.  I'm still not sure but need to figure something out for the season, maybe stabilicers as the way to go but i was lookin for something a lil less cumbersome.

Agree, my stabi licers are stable but you need to sometimes redo the velcro straps..i like how the heavy duty vibram soles keep my boots off the ice too. I doubt there is a more long term reliable ice cleat on the market..if so, they must cost alot more than the 40 dollars I spent on these heavy futies..  the only con-they are a bit heavy due to the thick vibram lugged soles.

One time expense for these babies.  Guranteed to last. Carbide tips and replacement cleats are all threaded.  The screws will not fall out like the Stabalicers.   Will not fit Pac boots though.

Korkers
Bring on the ice!!!!!!!  <br />

How about these overshoes?

I have some stabilicer overshoes that look just like those.  They are great, over my hiking shoes, down to about 5 D. F.

Just bought a pair of the stabilicer overshoes (NEOS Explorers). I got lucky and found them in my size on amazon, almost brand new for $40  ;D. They seem to be awesome, just need some ice to test them out.

I ordered the Yak Trax XTR's in a Large. I had about $80 worth of Cabela's points so I got em. I got them today and they fit my size 10 Cabela's Snow Squalls just fine. The storage bag is almost too small to fit both spikes in there. Looks like they will be great for this season. They have metal grommits in the rubber where the chains attach...Unlike the Microspikes I was also looking at.

That stood out to me as well while looking at both.
