Ice auger safety
« on: Mar 06, 2018, 09:42 AM »
Had this happen last weekend, I just happened to not tie my shemagh (afgan scarf) like usual and wrapped it around my neck.
Scarf got caught somehow through the gap on pull cord cover of my jiffy pro4 and sucked me into the auger head.  1 in a million chance but still something to be cautious and aware of.  Loose clothing, scarf, hoodie strings, sleeves, etc...
Had the scarf been tied like usual, it could have choked me to death.  Scary stuff for sure.

Did the picture not load, I can't see it?  There is a picture of my neck with a wicked rug burnfrom the scarf being ripped off?

Glad your ok, except for burn on your neck! Good reminder to everyone to check for loose clothing around augers.

Got to say every time I unzip my Parka and drill a hole I get the Drill Stuck in my Parka Pocket. Have to lean down to get it out.

Anything under power that has high torque and spins can be very dangerous. Poeople are killed or maimed every year by pto driveshafts.

At least you would have died doing what you love.
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

Getting choked while inhaling exhaust fumes? That’s a little extreme for me!

Glad you’re okay. I often fear my lanyard that has my sounder and forceps will get caught up in my M18 when I am drilling holes.
