Gravel lake ice should be fine. Even Singer Lake in Baroda has good ice.

I was going to reply to you last night, splash, but I had just made the account and fell asleep.  Gravel seems to always be frozen once lakes in that area have gotten solid.  I've never done that great there, but I've seen some pike taken and I've caught a few nice crappie.
