I was out towards the flats about 10days ago. Didn't see anyone driving out there yet. We were fishing Carols Cove and the resort and 17inches of ice at both places there. Walleyes are starting to bite in the afternoon now and are still biting a little bit towards evening.

less people able to drive out there equals less ignorant people out there-people driving their vehicles through your spread of tip-ups, drilling holes 5 feet from your holes, surrounding you and your spread spooking every fish within 2 miles, coming over asking you what color your underwear is so they can catch a fish so they can keep it, etc....
NO ICE ROAD=GOOD FISHING!!!!!
that's why!!!!

EMT has had enough and so have many others.Alot of traffic goes through that lake and i for one have witnessed it....It sucks too because i bring a group of 10 people every year for our annual trip...We are very respectful of the lake and usually break into 2 groups so we keep the noise down......we like to fish for the sport,not ruin lakes by limiting out everyday.
Not working for 2.5 years because of a bad back is taking it's effect on my bank roll...but hey,my fishing skills are much better :}

Thanks for telling me to stay at Silver tip outfitters. I think I will head up that way on sat morning and fish this weekend. The weather should be good. It will be my first time up on Tobin. Can you tell me if thay fish for walleye on the flats also? and is it the usual jig and a minnow kind of thing? Thanks

Not too many walleye on the flats as far as I know.  It is relatively shallow.  Most guys use tip ups and big bait underneath (Ciscos seem to be popular).  You can catch them jigging as well, but it is shallow so it's easy to spook them.  If you want to fish for walleye, I would assume you'd fish the river portion of the lake.
