damn, that sucks.  Already have time off work and a hotel room booked.  When the edges go, can a guy still get on with waders, or does it get deep fast?

There always seems to be a place to get on , you might have to walk a ways  . I haven't been back for two weeks but may be that way this week . If I get there I will pass on info .

I fish with a bunch of Ice Holes !

On the west end Saturday still 12-14" of ice, starting to honeycomb though.  Very muddy needed
8' plank and a pallet to get off.  We did well nice crappie, bluegill and a couple perch.
It's been in the low to mid 20s last couple nights, should be good for a few more days
I would think.

How close is Box to being fishable? Any ice at all?

There is basically no ice on Box Butte. Going to be a while I'm afraid if at all.

Was up there yesterday and there was 4 - 5" of good ice around boat dock area. After these next couple days and nites there should be a couple more inches by Friday.

With these temps, it must have added 4 inches I would think. Tomorrow will tell.

Yesterday 6-7" ice off boat dock, 3 to 4" snow cover didn't make it to Hunters point, there were huts up that way.  A few for the frying pan

Saw 5-7 inches by the dam in 8-20 feet of water.  Lake looks very low.   One nibble in 3 hours.    If someone wants to throw me a bone and gimme a clue as to what works here that’d be rad.

4 in of ice off hunters. I wouldn't go to far out though. Blue gill were biting and one decent perch.

I was using a wonder bread jig with a waxie. Caught 10 nice gills and threw a few smaller ones back. About 9 FOW. Off Hunters

FYI For those who might be headed Box Butte Friday 12/29 or the next couple days might take notice.... Ice thickness really varies and they started to discharge a pretty good stream of water out of it this afternoon to get it back to the level they want to maintain through out this next year. They are discharging what is needed and then shutting off until it needs lowered again. Obviously there is no notice or signage saying when it happens. I am going to say in the next couple days there might be some major shifts in the ice or it might not affect it much at all.  Just be careful.  Be safe. Funtwohunt

Fished hunters today 4" ice, little sketchy so didn't even run heat in hut. Started down west and had 3" standing water in hut so moved further east. Few nice gills and a perch, called it early as wind started blowing pretty good
