« on: Oct 23, 2021, 03:18 PM »
I would like to try some lipless crankbaits for bass this year , can anyone suggest some that are good under the ice , I have some for open water but they seem huge and heavy 1/2 oz on a jig rod .  any suggestions appreciated !

Rapala Rip'n Rap
Rapala Slab Rap
13 Magic Man Mini
Yo-Zuri Mini Vibe
Eurotackle Z-Viber Micro

and the Salmo Chubby Darter for actual ice fishing vertical jigging

Ive had great luck using eurotackle z vibers and yo zuri mini rattln vibes for walleyes and crappies...

Perch or bluegill patterns work best in my neck of the woods.

I would get an occasional bass on different jigs, then I started using a Salmo Chubby Darter and started whaling on bass, both LM and SM. It seems to me on some lakes the fish are looking for a horizontal presentation others they are happy with vertical. The huge circles that the Chubby Darter can be made to "swim" in and then the pause when it swims back to the center with a great wiggle, often prove to be too much for many preditors...

they seem huge but they work.  i started putting "suspenda strips" on open water rattle traps for ice jigging years ago.  they call fish a long ways man!  if you dont weight the trap it will tangle the line in the hooks. im sure they have something comparable now days for vertical jigging.  i dontthink they sell the stick on lead "suspenda strips" anymore?
real fishermen don't ask "where you catch those"
