Pass for me, not a fan of any of the googan squad.

They had a soft plastic that really worked well for me last winter, the ice mite (in action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbCdMP_fUXo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbCdMP_fUXo)); got a couple of their rods, too, which I like. I can see where the whole cult of personality they've got going is gonna rub some people the wrong way, but I've had no issues with their products as of yet. I'm a little confused as to why they'd launch their site with such sparse selection, though.

I bought one of the SmokeShow rods last year and was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. I may look at picking up a couple of the Tantrum’s too.

Not the biggest Googan fan as I think a lot of their stuff is overhyped or clones of existing products, but I've been dying to get my hands on the Dinner Bell since last season. Aaron Wiebe (not a Googan) has shown it to be incredibly effective for trout. Bought just a few.... (of every color)  ::) Hoping to put them to the test in January when trout season opens back up.

Similar view here too. However, isn't Aaron Wiebe (uncut angling) involved with product development and kind of a silent partner? I believe I recall him talking about it in his videos. He seems like a stand up guy. Just ordered some dinner bells and a few tantrums. In the past I've had to convert some smaller ruby eye spoons into make shift dinner bells using tiny spinner blades.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure what his full role is but I know he plays a part in product development. The man is a fish slaying machine no matter what you give him, but I saw enough ice fishing videos with the Dinner Bell to know that I needed a few.

Fyi if you want the "dinner bell spoon" but not from frostbite,  the original maker is still selling them from time to time. J and S custom lures "demon tongue".  He's pretty active on facebook with inventory updates and constantly trying new innovative stuff, some of his jigs are insane.  He has a big following so some of the glass jigs go fast, like in 24hrs at times.  I think 8mybait website is where he sells??

Heck, are they in kahoots with J & S? He makes the ice mites, too.

Hey Lefty,

If you’re having issues with the link, try just searching for Fish Frostbite Co in Google Search and it should bring it up for you.

I tried to get some Demon Tongues last season because I couldn't get Dinner Bells, but they were out of stock (wasn't even sure they were still in production) and it looks like it's the exact same story right now. At least the Dinner Bell is in stock. I'll judge quality when I get them.

I wrote to J and Custom lures and asked if they would have any demon tounge spoons available and this was their response.

"No, I wont have any of those.  As part of my Deal with parting ways with the company Frostbite, I won’t be making any more.  They have renamed it the dinnerbell.  You should be able to get them soon from them.  The demon tongues I’m selling are some that I have left."

I haven’t followed this whole J&S/ Frostbite thing. Seems like a soap opera to me. I’m having a hard time figuring out why anybody cares. Can you enlighten me in 50 words or less?

watch the video posted above - not much drama to it really

There is never no drama when you take your designs and join a large company. I'm sure promises were made, designs were handed over and the IP along with them. I'd be guessing there is some bad blood but if J&S went around telling everyone the crap that went down, he'd be hauled into a court room pretty quick for slander, ex.
Just my interpretation of what I think. Company first, personal feelings last, ALWAYS.

I like Aaron Wiebe but can not support anything Peric has his hands on.  It seams like he screws over everyone, its just a matter of time.  I would like to buy a dinner bell but not until I can get it from someone else.

Frostbite had a falling out with della bay custom rods too, seems like it's a common theme. Last I heard their "custom" rods were customized in China. I'm with Hawg, sounds like a bunch of drama.
Title: Re: Frostbite Page is now up
Post by: bwjay on Oct 19, 2020, 04:35 PM
It seems to me like plenty of drama is started by speculation from people who just don't like Peric and/or other Googans. I don't know what happened one way or another. But hey, if y'all wanna pass on the Dinner Bell because of something you think happened, that's cool. I appreciate you keeping the Dinner Bell hot 'n fresh for the trout I intend to show it to.  ;D

The video answers all the questions about J/S and Frostbite...I wouldn't call Frostbite a big company
They had a deal with DellaBay to get their feet wet into ice rods (haha) but shifted their rod's to mass produced China to likely get a better profit margin. It is much easier to get small batch rods built in the USA vs China. I'd speculate Frostbite wanted to jump into the market, did what they could to make a name, then are shifting over to easy/cheaply mass produced products here after

He's a one man shop and demand is so high he can't keep stuff in stock for those asking about inventory.. had a "release" two nights ago, and well as you can see it was a sell out. Demon spoons where gone in 10 minutes or so.

I assume they are not going to sell the "1.0". I have no idea what was changed, as they look functionally the same. The "2.0" is on the website right now so you can see what they look like for yourself.

Got my order today! Remember guys, 2 is 1 and 1 is none, so, buy 3.  ;D The Tantrums were just the "might as well" addon; what I really wanted were the Dinner Bells. Looking forward to hunting down some big trout and pike with these puppies. I've got a lot of hooks and split rings to swap out though...

Did they tell you this? The placeholder page they had on their site specifically said something like "all items in stock October 2020 + Dinner Bell 2.0!".

I'm wondering what they could have changed, honestly.

I got a response from them on Facebook messenger. My guess it lines up with the St Paul show that’s happening in early December.

My guess is newer colours or stronger hooks.

The stock hooks aren’t stellar. They get full fast. I’ve also heard reviews that upsizing the hook is recommended for better hookup ratio.

The St Paul Ice Show isn't happening this year unfortunately. Interested to see what 2.0 could have. I'll be putting some Owner Hyper Wire split rings and Gamakatsu trebles on them and they should be good to go. I don't know if the stock hooks/split rings are bad, but I like to replace hardware on most baits I buy unless the stock stuff is great.

You’re right, I misread the St. Paul’s dates. The hooks were an issue and paint was coming off. I don’t know how’d they improve the thing when my gut says they offshored production to increase profit margins.

You’ll know if they offshored it for sure when you see knock offs showing up on aliexpress  for a fraction of the cost 😆
