HOT BITE DEC. 28TH
« on: Jan 02, 2008, 01:42 PM »

Here is a mess i caught on Dec. 28th. Fish were really hitting for a while today.

no limit on gills or perch in inland indiana waters, just on the redears, crappie. We cleaned 250 fish that night and the night before. With electric knifes and tumbler scalers it doesn't take long. I filleted 100 fish in 25 minutes. Still had to take out the rib bones, but another guy was doing that.

the electric drum scalers work like a dream. The real key to success with them is to seperate your fish by size a, small medium and large and do them in seperate batches. fish over 9" you can scale about 40, 8.5" and smaller you can load about 50. Also making sure you put the right amout of water in it. You only want to fill the drum up in a fashion that about 1/4" of water is actually in the cylinder. The only messy part about the whole operation is dumping out the 4.5 gallons of black scaley water when your done. But it does leave the fish completely slime and scale free, plus easy to work with.

Decreasing fish populations? You obviously are not talking about bluegills. You need to come down and bluegill fish in Indiana.  The lakes that have best gill fishing are the ones that are fished the hardest and have alot of fish  taken out of them.

Didn't you read what he said?  No limit on Bluegills.  Considering that was one days catch I have to believe he's doing more good than he is harm by taking some of those fish out of the water.

As long as it's legal and your going to eat them, keep them.

you could have a hundrede guys on th ice somedays catching that many and more and it wouldn't make a difference, gills reproduce like nothing, and they're pretty hardy fish. its a shame this thread got negative.

way to go buddy nice catch!

DOn't worry about mnfisherguy, thread will get as negative as those that care to engage at that level!  NICE pile!! I may have to get myself an electric knife; it would take me FOREVER to get through 250 gills with my blade!  I regularly keep as many gills as I (the kids) want (dare) to keep. Probably keep even more if I could clean 'em quicker!  Great job!

Great Catch. I have had some negative responces to keeping fish my self. I feel if that state alows you to keep that many fish there is a reason. I only keep what I am going to eat and i am sure most do as well. If you have nothing good to say dont say it at all and stay off every one elses a$$.
