Probably from the CT River

We've had walleye in several lakes for many years now. The state of CT has done a remakable job of stocking walleye here in the last few years especially. Unfortunately we don't have many (any) bodies of water with suitable habitat for spawning so it is a put and take fishery. Walleye fishing through the ice has become very popular so the regs had to be changed to give the fish a chance to grow. A couple of years ago they changed to 2 fish @ 18". It seems to be working well. We see quite a few fish in the 5 - 7 lb range in a couple of lakes in particular. The biggest I have seen was 14 lbs a couple of years back and I helped a friend of mine land an 11lb fish.

Here's 1.5" or so last season... there were 3 of us, 75' of 1" poly rope, ice picks, floater suits, and common sense (some may find this debateable) involved.  Ice wasn't cracking but there was some definite flex causing water to flood the surface when you stood close to your hole.  Was it worth it - NO  - the fishing sucked.  Will I do it again this year - most DEFINITELY...  :D

Be safe folks!  If you're not confident in the ice or yourself, don't go out.

Heck, with 1.5" of ice, you don't need an auger or spud bar... Just whip it out and pee on the ice  :o
