Those bows look like footballs. WOW :o :o Very, Very. Nice :flex:
Question, since you are fishing with a jigging rod I am assuming you can only use two(i.e. two hand helds in NYS.....I am assuming you caught those bows in NYS)
yes ny and we only use 1 jigging rod and one slammer, but we heard you can use more.We are going to find out!!!!!

NICE FISH !!! ... and I'm glad you like you Slammers.
Wish the action was better around here. It's been SLOW SLOW SLOW. Maybe due to the constantly changing weather. Yesterday it went from snow to rain to freezing rain to a THUDERSTORM to more rain and now it's snowing again with the wind cranking in excess of 30 MPH.
Here's a pic of some Slammer caught steelies from a few years ago:

looks pretty cool, just curious if you guys use barbs on the hooks? We are only allowed barbless hooks where I live and I could see the fish getting off after being hooked(as your running over to rod)

well i use both barbless and barbed depends what jig i tied that day or if i know that i am going to release all of them. The thing with the slammer is the fish just keeps fighting down until you get there. Now i have only been around fifteen feet away so far.I guess we will have to see if i get farther away,so far i cannot believe how well the slammer works.

:o

And westernny got another slammer fish today, did i mention "WE LOVE THE SLAMMER" we landed 3 today and mr.s-10 had a 10 pounder until i broke it off at the hole(sorry dude)

i still can't get how shiny and healthy those fish look
they are pretty should have some more real soon ;D

great lookin fish, especially the 9 pound brown. you can love the slammer all you want though, i still dont think its worth $30 plus wood and a rod. maybe i'm just cheap and simlpe :P ::)
-
you can get the kit for 13.00,any 5 to 6 foot rod will work it doesnt have to be a slammer rod.Once you try it you wont regret it.
-
beautiful fish, great job. I'm kalous. ;)
-
Ok you sold it! I ordered one today...prob wont get to use it till next winter the way the weather is holding :'(

30 dollars???????????? I hope you read some more of the posts its not 30 dollars
-
yeah, i was just on their site. its $33 for the prebuilt, and $14 for the kit. still too pricy for me. i'll stick to my HT windlass and polars. plastic so they dont rot or break, orange so some nutcase on the ice doesnt hit em!
-

I'll stick to the slammer!!!! I have some of those plastic polars and some of the ht windless. The plastic polars cost more than 14 bucks .I have 20 regular tip-ups some are wood some are plastic some are redone with pressure treated.i'll trade ya for 4 of the slammer tip-up kits. If you use pressure treated or ceder the slammer will last the rest of your life!!!!!Paint them orange if you want!!!! ;D if you use one you will love it!!!!!

Probably what some guys said when the wheel came along ;D
I think I'm going to get some for next year for some of the big bows ( 30 - 37 inch range) we have up here. I see them on the flasher and they just sit there and fin and won't bite. Probably spooked by my slight movement or something just not right. We catch up to 27 inches but anything over is real spooky. I think these might be the ticket for big bows.
Anyone use these for lakers? Ours seem to like lots of movement. Just wondering how they would work for them? Can't use fish of any kind as bait where I'm from :-\ .
-
awsome ;D
-
awsome ;D
4sure cant wait to use mine again!!!! wont be long now!!!! ;D
-
that kit seems to work great, and the construction is very simple, i think i will make a variation for my 34" ice rods, i absolutely hate using anything bigger unless its for lakers.
-
Oh Yeah!! I've seen the slammer in action and i am getting one this year for sure!! :)
-
Bought the kit 2 weeks ago and have put a few together. Bought my own hardware and tweeked the design a little to make it more user friendly. The directions and the design are great and I can't wait to get on the ice to use it. Took it to work and caught a few out of the raceways at work to see it in action but it's not the same as chasing a flag on the ice. My only question is should I bend the eyelet of the rod more or spread the base apart further or closer? The ring seems to be way to sensitive and pulls free at the slightest tug. I don't want the action to be too stiff. I also don't want to be out there messing with it when i should be fishing. Has anyone tweeked them out and maybe throw a hint my way thanks in advance.

To be honest with you mine has such a hairy trigger i thought it would be falling off in the slightest puff of wind!!! you can ask the guys i fish with how hairy it is and i kid you not in 20mph wind it never came off!!!!(except for when one of those pretty steelhead took my bait!!! ;D)

-

lol theyre steelhead...

I hope you like to eat trout...cuz it looks like the slammer has a 100% mortality rate. I would probably jig with hair jigs/spikes or egg imitations myself, if we had a place to icefish for L.O. run trout in NY.

It looks more to me like hunters08's GAFF has about a 100% mortality rate and I sure would be eating 5 pound browns and steelies. FIRE UP THE GRILL!
Gaffing big rainbows and browns when ice-fishing is a common practice where allowed.
With a Slammer Tip-Up and a suspended bait, most fish are hooked in the corner of the mouth or upper jaw. When slack-line floater-bait rigging in current, yes, they can take the bait down their throat. But one little #6 or #8 single hook or #16 treble down the throat is NOT going to cause that much blood.
Unless he's using 7/0+ sized hooks, all that blood is either from a gaff hook, bullet wound, or intentionally bleeding the fish (especially hens with spawn inside).
You can easily see where my buddy gaffed this fish which got wrapped up in the line and came in goofy.
It's much better to do a nice solid neck shot.
Hey hunters08 - Get an eye shot on that hook-jawed male brown or what?? You're not shooting those fish with a .22 are you? ;)
-
Gotta ask what is the limit on steelies there, because in that one pic i counted 10. That's just crazy. I only ask because here in NY it's a 1 steelhead limit.
-

There are a couple of threads about this ... Slammers are considared tip-ups/ traps in new york state (5) allowed with name and address. Slammers have an audible alarm (slam) when set off.

When that picture was taken, the Michigan inland lake limit was 5 fish per day (it is now 3). That was a two person limit that went to the smoker. Days like that are rare, but later that season, two buddies and I landed 18 fish in about an hour and a half and took home 15.

No gaff i bleedout all my fish!!!! I have an upgrade on the brown trout i will post her later along with some more slammer trout!!!! Have i ever mentioned we LOVE THE SLAMMER cant remember if i ever told you ;D
-
how do you guy get those slammers to work so good? i went out this past weekend and had the bait striped 10 times without setting the slammer off one
-
wow man i cant imagine anything stealing bait from my slammer. Why dont you post a picture of your slammer all set up maybe i can help. If i cant the guy that invented them is always on here
-
kk will post in 15 min

In NY you are allowed one steelhead in the tributaries...... But if you are fishing the lake or a bay you can 3. there are certain mile markers or bridges or different things that are considered the beginning of where the tributary regs take effect.

-
mine is a homeade version i no that it works because i have caught pickeral and perch on it but no the trout. one question when you set the slammer up is the line tight tp the bait or do you give the fish line to run a couple of feet before going off

the slammer
-
(http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj121/fib1989/trout020.jpg)
the trigger
-
(http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj121/fib1989/trout021.jpg)
one more of the trigger
-
this trigger is really sensitive. a little tap from a perch can trip it off
-
I had a feeling it wasnt the kit. You should order the kit for 13 bux !! the way your trigger goes in the eye i would guess the trigger is the problem. I honestly doubt a 4 inch perch could steal bait from my slammer with out being hooked.I have never had bait stolen or ever missed a trout with my slammer 100% success(you would think i had stock in the slammer kit)I dont but i do love the "SLAMMER KIT"
-
i think that im going to make an arctic warriors for my jig stick part of the fun of fishing and the challenge is setting the hook
-
MA Bass Fishing's device is basically what we call a SPOOLER (because you can get the line spooled off your reel without it releasing from the trip-wire). A couple of similarities in that there's a rod and reel with a drop away arm holding the rod under tension, but it's definitely NOT a Slammer.
-
and the fish could really swallow the hook bad with that set-up
-
wow great pics, i need a couple of slammers, those things look cool.
-
yes you should order the kit they are great you wont be dissapointed
-
those are some fat fish :)
-
I am sold on the slammer. I have never had any luck with trout on tip ups it looks like this is the answer. Has any body ever use them for pike fishing.
D3
-
i don:t want to sound like a noodle head but were can i get some of those, they look pretty cool.dying to try them out thanks for any input.

no never even got a free slammer(hint hint to the slammerman) just kiding no, i really do think the slammer is way better than a hand over hand tip-up for trout. The slammer just makes it more fun using a rod and reel with light line.all or most of those fish were taken on 6# test line. Rather than hand over hand with rope on a spool. Thats just my opinion nobody take offense please  And yes we do love the slammer that much!!!!!!
-
Nice looking fish!!
-
thanks slammerman, gotta chack into it.
-
Just wanted to tell slammerman that if you are looking for new rods for the slammer the lightning rod i use with mine is perfect! I cant wait to get the slammer out this year.
-
those are some huge rainbows. good job
