Title: Front range ice
Post by: fishslap on Feb 24, 2018, 11:52 AM
I checked a few spots in the last 24 hrs.

-small pond by my house has 4” but it’s not very productive.  Caught one crappie at sun up then moved on to check another spot.
-more small ponds, both had crappy ice with a fishable 2-3” in one corner but not the best location
-a larger pond I checked last night had a healthy cap but only an inch or so thick.

Places that managed to keep some ice before this past week are probably fishable.  Anything that opened up isn’t going to be good.

Now the question is do I go after that yella gold tomorrow or not...

Already did. Might hit it tomorrow.  Was looking for something else today since I haven’t worked down my perch backlog.

Guys were out in the CENTER of Atown today.  I mean the CENTER! ;D  Thin ice and high winds are a bad combo IMO.

Smart move to not venture out far, especially if you have fish in the freezer. Most of the fall in stories are from ice deteriorating during the day and wind. Winds keeping me off the ice today. Any idea how thick near the beach and back bays?
