I fish NH , Maine and Vermont. For my half century of ice fishing we used Tipups or Traps. When did we begin calling them TILTS? I've fished in Vt where some fisherman balance reel and rod above the hole waiting for it to tip down to signal a fish. I'm to old to be confused by new terminology!! Dick
Its tip ups here in Michigan.never heard of a perch called a slab..slab means wide bodied panfish to me.i was born here but lived in Oklahoma for a long time after that and i still refer to crappie as specks.perch are either jumbos or dinks.
Smelt and Smelts..... Im going smelt fishing... Or..Im going smelts fishing??
Yup.Gills...slabs or bullsSpecks...slabs or paper plates Perch...jumbosPike...hammer handles ( small ) or " Boot" ( large ). Buddy and I started calling them that years ago when spearing them. If one came into the hole with a head as big as a boot ( bunny style) it was a good one.
smelt fishing.as in i caught alot of smelt today.not alot of smelts.
Shanty, shack, bob house, shelter ..
Always tip up in WI though...
Tilts. Probably a Massachusetts thing...
