That's nothing, I worked with a guy from SD that once told me his old man would use a shotgun to open holes in the ice.

I forgot to load my auger this morning and realized it after work.  Went straight to the lake and used a brick hammer to open a few holes.  This might be the only time I was happy there was only 3" on the lake.

I was out west with my brother years ago, and we had the whole back of his Subaru filled with music equipment, speakers, skis etc. Since ice fishing wasn't the top priority, (music gig at a ski slope, skiing) there was barely room to sneak a bucket of jigging rods on board. When I discovered there was a really nice lake near town, (Leadville CO) I got a medium wrecking bar with an nice sharp end  at the local hardware, and used it for a spud. Luckily, very few people saw me using this device, but we managed hack through 12'' of black ice, resulting in several lake trout up to 27''.

but it still looks like that sucked

Must be the pcb's in the water in ft ed. You never answered dude. Are you allowed to use live bait on that part of the river.

The old timers on Mille Lacs would spud 3'' of ice routinely! Thank god for Swedes and their augers!!

A buudy of mine has one of those 4X4 Rinho's with studded tires. watched him do a brake stand and drill two holes side by side with his back tires through 6" of ice in about 15 seconds. Talk about a sweet auger one for jigging one for the camara both at the same time.
If I'm not fishing then I'm not happy

When I moved to Philly PA, I had no gear, I didn't think they got ice that far south. :-\ When ice formed, I took what I thought would get the job done, a hatchet. Yes, I was a bit embarrassed :embarassed:, but not enough to stop me. A nice angler offered his Mora to me to use. I don't think he will see it, but I would like to Thank Iceshanty member Jameytree again for letting me use his auger. It just so happens that he also told me about a cool website called "Iceshanty.com". I also had a killer couple hours on ice, slaying the dink Gills, good fun. :icefish: Do what ya gotta do men. :flex:

last year i was on my favoite lake at dawn, by myself. finally a guy came out on the ice, and i thought to myself someone to talk to. he said he'd never been ice fishing before, so he thought he would give it a try. the ice was a foot thick, and he was really impressed with my hand auger. he was trying to cut holes with a STEAK KNIFE :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

Hey snot, I tried to pm you but it won't let me.  No I haven't been to the spot you mentioned.  I only live about 2 miles from there though.  Hope to be down there mid week as long as the weather doesn't get to warm.  Really thought it was that spot though, go figure? ;)
