NEPA perch
« on: Dec 05, 2022, 03:10 PM »
Hi there My name is Mike, obviously new to the forum. After a long hiatus away from fishing hard water I almost have all the gear I need to get back into it this season. Grew up in upstate NY fishing Sodus, Oneida, and Chaumont in my high school years. Moved to Virginia for a while after that and as you can imagine that put a damper on cold weather activities. I am in Wayne county now and if anyone has any pointers on where to find decent perch I am all ears. Even if I have to give up the 2lb test for a trout rig I need to blow the dust off the tackle.

-Cheers,
Mike

I agree, plus you never know what you might hook on too. There is some nice fish in the pack.

the pack? meh. I would be looking at Prompton first off, Belmont, Duck Harbor, Upper Woods and then if it's a good cold winter I would be looking at the pack.

You can find decent perch in just about any lake in the Poconos except Upper Woods(never caught anything but trout there). White Deer, Promised Land Upper and Lower lakes, Fairview, Shohola, Greeley, Merli Sarnowski, Harvey’s and Winola just to name a few.................

The perch are bigger and more abundant  in the big lake, but it's  not for everybody (thankfully).

Rutt is correct.  You can find perch in any one of those lakes.  And one of these days, he hopes to catch one...

LOL!!! that's right George! Hey, Tell em about that time you caught a perch! LMAO!!!!

 ;D ;D

There are also lots of trout stocked lakes in the area but these trout are easy to catch, just ask Rutt. Heck, you can go with straight braid with a paper clip on it to catch them! Just don't know how edible they are...

I remember that day like it was yesterday Spider.   My furthest tip-up went up so I ran as fast as I could.  I swear it was rattling as I was getting closer.   I slid the last 10 feet on the ice.  I looked down the hole....and nothing.  Stole my bait.  But when I got back to base, my jig pole was halfway down the hole and I pulled up a big one.   Every bit of 11".   I was going to have it mounted but I felt bad for Rutt seeing how he once again got skunked for the 37th time in a row.  So I gave it to him and he went home and told his wife he caught it.  She was so proud she made him pudding.  What a day!

yep, I would rather hang out with these guys and not catch a thing than go to work, that's for sure... and often do  ;D

Can't wait to get on the ice with you guys again, it's been too long. Lets hope it's a long cold winter with just enough snow to make it interesting!

OK, I admit, Rutt is pretty good for a jaw-jacker junkie.  Especially with those fancy panfish called trout!  Looking forward to getting out with the good guys again this year.  Never a bad day with good friends.

I may get skunked every now and then but I never go home hungry................ .as long as Chef George is around!  ;) (He makes the best sausage, egg and cheese sammiches!  ;D)

Can’t wait to get back on the ice with you guys to bust some chops and have a few laughs! 😜
