Never tried it... for me, they usually turn off in the late afternoon.  When that happens, I pack up.  From what I hear, perch like to lay low at night because they can't see all that well.  I've heard the same for Crappie, but that's a totally dif. fish

Perch are day feeder and lie on the bottom at night as lest that's what I've read. I've a lot at night and never have caught a perch when it was dark out.

A night Perch bite does happen on some  (very few) bodies of water and can yield some better than average fish. I do target them on the bottom but it also just happens to be where the night time Crappie and 'gill bite is. Usually go home with a very nice mixed bag. Just run something on the bottom in your Crappie hole, you may be surprised, but I wouldn't bet much of anything on it (big 'gills tend to skim the bottom under the Crappies at night, shhhhhhhhhh) got nothing to really lose either way

I used to kill them on my local lake after dark with a crappie light believe it or not and as Swift mentioned they were bigger than the day feeders on average.
Never tell a fish where its supposed to be

I spend lots of time on the ice at night. Perch would be at the bottom of my list of species caught at night.

I never fished for them during the night either, until last year.  Had a phenomenal half hour just after dark one night.

Perch, Bluegill, and Northern Pike usually feed much less actively at night. There are exceptions to every rule, but it is usually a waste of effort to target these species after dark. Sometimes they go more nocturnal if they are being heavily pressured, but that is rare. Using lights to attract fish is unlawful here in MN, so I don't do it.  It's also another snake oil trick IMO, highly over hyped.

Walleye, Crappie, and Eelpout feed MUCH more actively at night.
