Where are all the Pike on Champlain
« on: Mar 04, 2009, 07:51 PM »
Just got back into ice fishing and if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. I've been out a few times and have only caught a few fish. Can anybody give me an idea where to go to get into the fish.

They're in shallow weeds coves and flats. northern end of the lake is best. I don't know why you didn't do well. Where were you fishing? What was your bait like?

Well I was fishing in 6-10 fow, Large shad fished from 3 foot to 12 inches under the ice . Bait was excellent.  Nobody seemed to be pulling fish. At the time I was North of Sand Bar. Sounds like I need to be at the Sand Bar. Thanks for the help.

Where is the sandbar?
"The Sandbar" is a causeway that links South Hero (the southernmost Champlain Island) to the mainland on the Vermont side. To get a view, Google "Sandbar State Park". It is part of U.S. Rte. 2.

The Sandbar Causeway separates the so-called "Inland Sea" section of Lake Champlain from Malletts Bay.

NOTE OF CAUTION to Empire State anglers: N.Y. fishing licenses are NOT RECIPROCAL in the Inland Sea or in Malletts Bay!
