I thought you could use a different battery for this unit other than a marine battery.  Carrying a deep cycle on the ice does not sound like much fun.
you can there are smaller 12vy batteries that you can get who wants to lug out a 50 pound battery

I would use this unit at my cottage,( higgins lake), to help me decide weither or not to keep fishing the dinky perch or move on to find larger ones. The water is very clear there and I already have a VEX to locate fish.
I was wondering though if there is longer cable system for the FISH TV than 50' ?

I just got one for christmas also hope it works out pretty good.

make sure you know that it runs on c batteries, not a rechargeable. That is the worst thing about it other than the picture. I would NOT waste my money.

I have both a fl-20 and a aquaview scout.  They both have their advantages. If i had to use one It would be the flasher.  The camera is nice to identify EXACTLY what structure you are fishin.   One cool way to use the camera is hooking the cable into slot on the back fin so it points straight down.  It then works alot like a flasher, Especially if fish are on the bottom.  I have both but I c both have their places.
I checked out the fish TV it seemed quite comparable to the scout II i own, I say good buy if you want a camera.

I purchased one of these at Harbor Freight for $99. It came with the 12v battery and case. Used it twice now and the only thing I dont like is there is no place to wind the 60ft of cable. Even purchased the 3yr warranty for $9. No questions asked warranty, just bring it back before the three years and get a new one.
I know, should have been here yesterday :(

Ive had a fish tv for 3 years and heres the fact if you fish murky water your going to hate it but fish clear water and your mind set will do a 180 I wont even bother bringing my fish tv to a murky lake but wolud not go with out it on a clear lake. I can always tell if the fish has the bait and hook or is just swimming around with the bait and doesnt have the hook in its mouth yet, NOW TRY TO DO THAT WITH A FLASHER

Opened my box a minute ago, hooked it up to my Vex battery, no way I'm buying 10 C batteries over and over again, I'm going out and getting a new battery for my vex, and using the old one for TV. I was pretty impressed w/ it and excited to give it a go.I turned off the lights in my basement and could see stuff w/ it fine. Thanks for everyones input on this thread very informative.

Got one for Christmas and had it out yesterday. I was totally impressed. Was fishing in a place with clear water with lots of fish to watch. Can't wait to use it again.

Still trying to find a softcase for it though. The owner's manual says Nature Vision has them on the company Web site, but I haven't found it.

Seems like another downside of this unit is that it doesn't have a video out jack so you could never record anything.

Actually I just opened mine and the instruction manual has a list of FISH TV accessories (pg. 10) They sell the digital video recorder separately.

The aquaview DV recorder will work in line - pretty spendy though...

I used my "FISH TV" brand camera again this weekend - LOVE IT - Find I'm downviewing with it 90% of the time.  I used an old soft sided cooler for my case - works awesome, ran the cables for the extra battery in the sidepockets.

Total useage so far - 14 hrs

Good thinkin'! Since Nature Vision's support folks haven't responded to my inquiry about a soft case, I'm gonna do the same!

so i don't know how to add a pole but is it worth it or not?

I don't have a flasher and can't afford one. And this would be my only source of seeing below the ice. So yes or no.
