Fish TV?????
« on: Dec 26, 2007, 12:41 PM »
Read an article by Mark Martin about gift ideas and he mentioned Fish TV.  I see Dick's carries them for around $100's.  Just wondering if anybody has used one and what they think of it.  Would like to pick up an underwater camera for ice fishing.  Any input?????

I actually have one of these and have had pretty good success with it.  Especially ice fishing there isn't as much comotion stirring things up.  For the price it is a very good buy compared to 3X the money for a slightly better picture.

I have one it's a aqua-cam. I haven't had any problems. Clear water, sit back and learn why the fish stopped biting. I'm sure that it is one of the best tools to take with yoy.

I got a Fish TV for Christmas - hooked 2 lantern batteries up for power.  Fished with it for about 5 hours so far, and caught many fish on the Cam.  Still early to say for sure but I'll be fishing hard with it over the next couple weeks, and I'll report back.

Now we are starting to get more input on this unit, but does anybody have any idea on range of viewing with this unit.  I know water clarity has a lot do with it but does it show much in low light hours and how wide is the viewing or scope of the camera.  Can you set it outside your shanty and cover a the activity under neath you?  Again, I know water clarity has a lot to do with viewing.

From a seperate hole, I could clearly see my hook, and the guy next to me.  Water clarity I would consider mediocre, and I could see about 10 - 12 feet.  Haven't tried it in low light, nor have I tried it in clear / mucky water.

Had an aqua view scout, tried it a couple of times,  ended up taking it back for an in store credit.  I did not like how far I could see and was kind of a pain trying to wined and unwind all of that cable couldn't really see anything over twelve feet deep and when you did the camera had to be very close to the fish.  I did drop a mag light down the hole with it turned on in about 35 feet of water,  lowered the camera down and a line with a treble,  the camera allowed me to retrieve my light.

i got one for Christmas. So far it has been pretty useful. The water i'm fishing in isn't clear but not murky either, and you can see bottom structure and fish really well 20-30 feet away. When it starts getting dark out it starts losing clarity really fast though. I've only fished with it for 3 days now for about 10 hours and it is still running off of 1 charge on a marine 12v battery. The only thing I'm concerned with is durability issues, because it's super light  and plastic. I dropped it on the ice one time about a foot off the ground, and it still works fine. Overall i think it would be a good pickup for someone who can't afford a nicer version of an aqua-vu or a flasher it will definately help you catch more fish.

I thought you could use a different battery for this unit other than a marine battery.  Carrying a deep cycle on the ice does not sound like much fun.
