Thanks Don. Yep hoping this freeze will open up more opportunities elsewhere.

Going to head out Friday to check the ice thickness at a few lakes.  Hopefully will get a report posted in this forum so you can all make your decisions about heading out this weekend.  The "ice itch" is getting severe!

Ciao for now

Did some reconnaissance today and the prospect of ice fishing is still a little "thin" this weekend. Loughborough Lake was iced over but not fully safe to walk out into the deep water. Sydenham Lake was iced over and snow covered. Verona Lake was iced over but near shore was only 3" - 4". Go out about another 30 yards and it was barely 2" thick. Not fully safe yet. Better to wait one more week and be safe!

A helpful graphic from In Fisherman for hunting walleye under the ice!

Good luck!

Looks good but not quite enough yet to support the annual ice fishing village that shows up on Verona Lake.  Hopefully by next weekend the fun in the sun can begin in earnest. Even if you do wander out BE SAFE!

Yup driving UTV on the ice at this stage is not smart.

Had 6 - 7" of ice on 2nd depot this afternoon in the bays. Not sure about the middle.  Seemed to be lots of water on top of the ice in spots. Caught a rock bass and a perch which kept the skunk away.

Stay safe on the ice folks.

Don't know if it's any help to you, but I was on 4th depot tonight and the ice was the best it's been all season, and it was popping really well this evening so it's only getting better

Went out this past weekend to Verona Lake.  There was 12" of ice - a little difficult walking on the lake as it was almost glare ice.  Fished in the southern part of the lake in 14' of water.  Marked several perch and blue gills on the camera.  A few decent sized pike drifted into the area. Had a few good strikes on the tip-up. Had one hook-up that bent the ice rod in half and then it just snapped in my hands - wished I had a chance to see what took the line.  Anyway, some fish are starting to bite.  There has not been much fishing pressure on the lake this year so lots of activity under the ice.  Anyway, may head out again this weekend depending on the weather.

Ciao for now.

Hi all, I am from the states, but have been fishing Frontenac Provincial park in the summer for the last 20 years.  Can anyone tell me if Devil Lake has a public boat launch?  One of these years I am going to come up in the winter and go after those huge bluegill and crappie that hit 4" lipless crank baits.

Hey HookEDUP24

There is a public gravel ramp off of Perth Road which runs on the east side of Devil Lake. This picture shows its location.

Hope this is helpful.

Hey Everyone! I'm new to the Kingston area (here for a year of school at Queen's) and I am VERY excited for the hard-water season! I Just want to quickly say thanks to everyone in this thread, it has been so helpful and informative for me as I plan out the winter and spots I want to fish! I hope I will be able to contribute this winter and give back to the community.
Now just a watch for safe ice! By the looks of the weather forecast it could be coming soon to small lakes and bays :P
Cheers!!
Eli

Welcome Elijah to the forum. Anything you want to know about the area just ask. If you are interested in ice fishing anytime just post on the site and we can arrange opportunities.

All the best.

I got out on the weekend about 4" of ice over 20fow couldnt go any deeper because it got soft and thin really quick.  Normally I dont have a problem posting body of water and helping people find ice but I will wait a couple days before I do. We were on really solid ice and totally comfortable but when a guy in our group ventured out another 50 ft the spud went through real easy.  Find a sheltered back lake or bay and start spudding! Super cold again last night so should be lots of scouting opportunities this weekend.

Hearn... there is solid ice around, any small bays or lakes should be safe. Was on 8 inches of ice on Dog lake yesterday... I'm sure I dont have to say be careful cuz ice condititons can be variable!

Thanks for the info. It's a big drive for me to get up that way so I just want to make sure.

Last year I got out once on Dog. Walked out from Burnt Hills Road where it narrows between Cranesnest Lake and Dog Lake. Where do you access the lake?
