Sometimes the sun is so bright on the lake that the reflection off the ice is so blinding that you miss some of the sights! Lol

If ice fishing was always like this many of us would never be allowed outside of the house!

Tight lines to all this weekend!

Ciao for now!

Out on Loughborough Lake today. Several lakers coming up from the bottom to the white tube jigs but no takers today. A little excitement today when home-made plane taxied down the lake and then took off for a flight over the area. Came off the lake with a bit of a sunburn - it was a great day overall.

Tomorrow, back out to Verona Lake for some fun with the pike and perch and maybe an elusive walleye. Hope others are enjoying their time on the lake.

Ciao for now!

Had a great day yesterday was fishing in the Derby. Caught a 9lb 7oz Pike, had a friend of a friend go weigh it in just before 5 (hoping he was trustworthy now, LOL) we continued to fish for and got into the crappie. Can never leave a hot a streak! Haven't heard anything yet, don't know what won it. I had a blast and that's what counts on the lake in my books  ;D

Caught on my tip up, baited with herring

Looks like I won third place;

My friend John is a local and here are the results and prizes if interested he sent me an email;

1st was 10.2 lb, He won a Vexlar flasher, valued at about $500.
2nd was 9.8lbs, He won a 4 man popup tent, valued about $300.
3rd prize was your fish, prize was first pick of the prize table

Overall it was a good day would have been awesome to get a flasher though, I really want one. The prize table apparently was just little things, so nothing big. But had a blast and thats what its all about!

(It was a Pike derby if anyone didn't know)

Nice Pike Dave!  Congrats on the 3rd place, too bad you just missed the flasher prize...best ice fishing tool other than a rod/line.

Well another successful fishing mission on Verona Lake. My son and I moved further east than most of the villagers on the lake. We found an ice honey hole for perch, bluegills, pike and crappies. While it was slow around the "ice village" we were in constant fish. The smaller the bait the better the bite.

Tight lines to all!

Hope everybody is having a good time fishing the back lakes this weekend. Weather is as good as it can be for end of February.

Actually taking a break from fishing today - got a new toy to play with - a Lowrance Elite-7 HDI. I am just trying to configure a portable base for it and will try it on the ice before putting it on the boat. Will have to wait 2 weeks though as I am heading out to BC for a week starting Wednesday so will try to get some soft water fishing in between work engagements.

Here is to Tight Lines and look forward to reading the posts about everybody's adventures.

Ciao to now.

Hey all ,nice to see some great pics on here . We were out on pearkes lake(also referred to as elbow lake ) on saturday just before lunch til about 3pm . We got 4 fish ,2 sunfish , a crappie and a largemouth bass . I  released everything but the black crappie ,which was delish cooked in lemon juice with a little garlic . Well worth the trip as it put big smiles on my sons face . Lots of slush on top of the ice  but still plenty of ice left  Nothing ventured , nothing gained ,til next time ,Bill420

Well I am back from being out in BC and all geared up for the last few weeks of ice fishing. Time to hit the ice hard for those last few great frozen outings before the transition to soft water season. Hope to see some of you this weekend.

Every now and then you come across some interesting information regarding fishing or even the fishing environment.  This depiction of the flow of water through the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean is extremely interesting and useful.

Checked out Loughborough Lake today.  Several anglers out on the ice.  Fishing looked slow but will give it a try tomorrow. Ice still good for walking on but not consistent enough for motorized vehicles.

Picked up tickets today for the Kiwanis Walleye World tournament at the beginning of May! Preparing for transition to soft water time!

Safe fishing and tight lines!

We are slowly getting to that time of the year. It is important to remember about checking the ice before venturing out. The above guide is a minimum reminder of what you should consider.  Looking forward to this season and hope to see some of you out on the back-lakes of Kingston.

Great summary of impact of weather and sun on ice formation and melting. The more you understand, the safer you will be.

checked out a few lakes the other day, most still wide open because of the wind but if you can find a sheltered area the ice is forming.  Eel bay was pretty much ice covered I suspect you will see people out there soon.  I am going to check some smaller lakes later in the week hopefully I will have a report to post.

Maybe with this cold weather we'll have some decent ice by next week.  I haven't ice fished in December for a few years but maybe this year.

Well Kingston keeners time to do a lake check around the area. Will be doing a drive-around tomorrow and Sunday and will provide some ice condition reports.  Taking the inflatable life vest with me just to be safe.  Looking to get some icefishing in before the calendar year ends! It is looking possible!

was up in smith falls yesterday.  One the way back through Portland, there was a guy about 200 ft out on the ice drilling holes.
