Deep Creek Ice Fishing
« on: Jan 09, 2017, 08:19 AM »
Good Morning All,

I traveled through Deep Creek this past weekend 1/7/17. Ice looked pretty decent from the road. Anyone been out on the ice? If so, how thick?

Thanks,
Fish Hawk

I went out yesterday.  5 1/2-6inches at the State Park.  Slow fishing.   I made sure I got out there this past weekend before the warm temps/rain gets here later tomorrow.  I doubt the ice will hold up after this week.

Went on ice on Monday, 4-5 inches of solid clear ice but watch out for coming weather, don't think it will last.

Awesome! Glad you all got to go some before this weather screws things up. I was trying to plan a weekend to go. I'm about 2 hours away. Don't want to drive that far and not be able to fish.

So looking at the webcam images from deepcreektimes.com site from this evening, that part of the lake was still frozen (seems like its the last spot to freeze) and the next two days look promising...is anyone going to check out the park on Sat willing to post conditions?  Or is there access to one of the coves off the main stem that has access? I'm stationed in the Baltimore area and thinking about trying Sunday and would hate to drive the 3 hours and have that internal debate of "doesn't seem too safe, but I did just drive 3 hours..."  Alternatively may just take the yak out to the Bay and search for those giant yellow perch I keep hearing about...crazy, freshwater fish hanging out in saltish water.  This state sure is interesting!!!

This weather is sure frustrating... as soon as we get good ice,  she takes it away from us with these 50+ temps. Next week looks like a thaw but heading into February looks good. Fingers crossed

Does anyone off-the-top of their head know the possession limit on DCL? I most often take 2 day trips to the lake and don't want to get hung up with more fish than allowed

meant to say regs, as in regulations.....vasea, not sure where you read that...it looks like you might be mixing daily and possession limits there..walleye season also closes march 1 on dcl.  but again, read the regs.  You will often encounter wardens on the lake, and while they are nice folks for the most part, they dont really bend for not knowing...or misunderstanding....ju st my .02  Hopefully we get back out there.

Yeah I'll have to check in the book once I get down and buy my license. I still have the book from last year but things may have changed. I'll most likely get checked the first day I'm out there anyway and could ask one of the Rangers. Like Perch nut said, they are nice folks but don't deal with ignorance

Question was about possession, for walleye daily limit and possession are the same, I specifically asked warden about all this because I usually come there for two days too, but regulations are the ultimate reference ones I had to refer to it talking with warden, last year regs specifically stated possession of walleye 5.

Good to know, looks like there are no regulations on possession of walleye this year

Upcoming weather pattern looks good after Thursday. We should be on the ice by early Feb!

I know it's sort of backwards....

Anyone knows that the latest ice conditions are after the rain/warm?
I see it's getting colder in Oakland MD (8 degrees as low tonight)..
I'm sure Deep Creek must getting close again to being able to ice fish.
