i have never fished them before but i was thinking of giving it a try does anyone have any advice on how to catch them.

Here in Montana, if you are fishing rivers for trout you will catch Rocky Mountain Whiteys as an incidental catch all the time.  They will take the same fly's that Cutthroat, Brookies, Bull, or Rainbow take...

I have never heard of anyone targeting them...but good luck!
