How's the Ice in the Pocono's?
« on: Feb 15, 2006, 07:08 AM »
My 12 year old son is off school on Friday, looking to take a day off of work and heading to the Pocono's to do some quality time ice fishing. Any reports on ice conditions would be greatly appreciated. Looking to try White Deer Lake if possible! :)

Lake Jean is another good lake for kids to fish.  Usually lots of flags with pickerel and a few Bass and large perch.  We have been doing well off the boat launch that is by the beach in 8 to 12 feet of water.  lots of bluegills and plenty of pickerel.  Ice is probably around 9 inches everywhere on the lake.

Shohola should have good ice as well as most of the bigger lakes in the Poconos. The smaller lakes may have lost too much with the warmer temps the past few days but should be good to go in 2 weekends if the forcasts are correct.

Give the guys at Wallenpaupack Sports Shop a call... (570) 226-4797

White Deer Lake is less than 10 minutes from their shop.

I would think Promised Land is OK too. The guy at Mike's Bait Shop (610) 759-2905 fishes that one regularly, and usually during the week.

Thanks for your replies, went to White Deer on Friday and the ice was about 4 inches with some open spots in certain pockets. Did not fish did'nt like the conditions, but went to Fairview and ice was 9 inches two open area's. After battling 50 mph winds ---- NO Flags

Where's Duck Harbour?
Northern Wayne county.
Rt 191N out of Honesdale about 10 miles.  Turn left on 371 and look for sign or go through intersection of 191 and 371 for about a mile and look for sign on left.

Wrightday,

What kinds of fish are in this Duck Harbor you are talking about.  I have heard of some big fish caught in upper Wayne county.

Jiggerman, this is the 2nd time I fished this lake hard water with no success but dink perch. I know their are trout, walleye, LMB, SMB, and pannies according to the lake map we had, but we never had any luck findin them. I'll stick with shohola from now on. Duck is a nice lake tho, and deep.l

Like NEPA said, plus northern pike.  I heard of some big fish (BASS) coming out of there earlier in the year, I haven't been up there this year though.

Fished Tobyhanna on Saturday, lots of good ice anywhere from 8 to 10 inches. Caught 10 pickerel and one nice 17" Brookie all on tip-ups.  No Bass. Winds were terrible, but still was fishable :)
